Metal Roof Versus Polycarbonate Roof?

I busted the front left corner of the OEM polycarb roof on my KRX1000 over the weekend bad enough that it must be replaced. The same OEM roof new is about $550 delivered so no bueno for me.
I am hoping to get feedback on whether the metal/aluminum roofs get hotter and are the louder/rattle? Do they add actual strength to the roll cage? Does anyone add some sort of heat shielding? Anyone running the metal roof with the skylight like THIS? Does it leak?
Are the aftermarket black matte polycarb roofs more flexible and giving?

Got hard on a tree this weekend and put a pretty bad crack in the front drivers side of the factory roof. Does anyone know of a used one or source. I have found them new.
TIA

'99 F250 Shortbed - Replacing Bedsides?

Both my bedsides are in rough shape. No rust but used hard and one side is the victim of jack-knifing a short trailer and the other the gift of being backed into at a Walmart parking lot (yes, they drove off). The rest of the bed is in good (enough) shape and the tailgate was already replaced once or twice.
I see that the replacement bedsides are not all that expensive but the replacement looks extensive with a Lot of spot welds. Is this commonly done and even practical? How/how long does one side take?

***EDIT*** ***EDIT*** ***EDIT***

I am not asking about replacing the entire bed (a bed swap), I am asking about replacing the bedsides on my existing bed.
