Tennis Shoes in the Sauna!!?
So I recently joined Crunch and one of the main reasons I signed up was to use the sauna, as well as workout. Except every single time I've walked by, I see people in there wearing their tennis shoes. Like full on gym sneakers, not sandals or anything. They look like they the just finished their workout and go straight in.
I haven't actually used it yet because of this. Feels pretty unsanitary to me, plus I've read that the heat can break down the glue/rubber in shoes and release some nasty stuff into the air. Not to mention shoes dragging in outdoor dirt and bacteria into a hot, humid space, which seems like a breeding ground for fungal/bacterial stuff like athlete's foot.
I've genuinely never been to a sauna anywhere (spa, hotel, other gyms) where this was allowed. Is this a Crunch thing? Is this normal at other gyms too? Am I overreacting or is this actually gross and unsafe? Curious if anyone's had luck getting their gym to actually enforce a "no shoes in sauna" rule.
Thank you :)
