Living downtown x further away

Hey!

So, I'm moving to York for my Master's degree that starts in September. The university is right downtown, the few rentals available that aren't minuscule are 1,150 or more. I'm 40 and have a dog, and honestly I don't want to live like a student in their 20s anymore. I like walking, cycling, but how bad is the weather if I need to ride a bike or e-bike for 10, 15 min, every day? Or if I'll work at a hotel at night? I found some great places, a lot cheaper, available around 15 to 20min driving (I'd be saving money even though insurance is high), but then leaving the car where...? Or is there a bus or train from those villages around York?

I honestly dont know what to choose... I need advice from people living there.

Maybe if I park and walk a bit, then? Or is there a bus or train from those villages around York?

International student trying to rent a flat alone (with a dog)

So... I'm an international student, starting my Master's degree at the University in September. I have a medium-sized dog, trained, so I want to rent a flat alone. I have the funds to rent something around £1.100 monthly, but obviously no guarantor (don't know anyone in the UK). I have bank statements to prove I have more than 12x rent. Still, it seems impossible because of the dog and the no income and no guarantor.

Is this an impossible task???

Flying to the UK... do they really ask for a special certificate of training?

So, I was approved for a masters degree in two countries: US and UK. Got all my documentation done to move to the US with my service dog, who was trained a year ago by a police K9 handler (I wasn't even going to move back then).

So. I have all the documents, rabies vaccine, sorology, and document signed by the trainer that my dog is a service dog.

Now, due to changes in my career, I've decided to maybe study in the UK instead. Classes start in 6 weeks.

My question is: what do they accept as proof that my dog is a service dog to fly to the UK? I read that they ask for a certificate given by a special school of training, but isn't it up to the air company? Mine is LATAM, and I'm trying to ask them, but no one there seems to be able to give me an answer (or even answer my requests).

I'm just so worried I might change countries and not be able to bring the dog w me. If I need to train him there again to go places w me, it's not that bad.

Relocating from overseas to the Philly area

Hello! I'm 39F, single, no kids (just a cute dog), I'm starting a Master's degree and would like to live close to Philadelphia, but I'm not sure if I it's best for me to be in a neighborhood or the suburbs surrounding the city. I don't mind commuting 45 or 50min. I just want to live in a safe and charming place, not too loud, but also not more than 15min away from some shops, restaurants, pubs etc. I'm relocating from a medium size town in Brazil and here it's a mix of Europe and US when it comes to daily life: we drive to the city center and walk around there for shopping. I love it. Any suggestions? PS. I will be renting a place. EDIT: my Master's is in NY and I'll only have to go there 2x a month, the rest of classes are online. EDIT 2: I intend to have a car and love to drive around.

'Career accelerator' service for CPT and OPT

My F1 visa was just approved for a Master's program that permits CPT. The agency that assisted with my visa is offering a 'Career Accelerator' service. They claim it helps optimize resumes and LinkedIn profiles for U.S. companies to attract recruiters, among other services. They say I should hire now because it might take a few months.

My goal is to secure an internship at a private investigation agency or a law firm's investigation department. Are career services like this recommended for students in my position, and are they actually effective?

So, I'm moving abroad in a few months, and I have a huge closet filled with stuff I don't wear (although love).

I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe, but I've always doubted that it would fit my style - I'm a high+low girl, but like some whimsical stuff with it ('peasant' dresses, tartan, burgundy or red colors, huntress vibe).

Any suggestions of where I could buy these types of clothing in the U.S. (Texas), some nice knee-high boots (but affordable) and if there are any stores that give off that vibe but keep things simple?
