Any Lobbying efforts to protect canadian musisicans from AI in ottawa?

I'd like to get involved if there are any lobbying efforts to get some rules in place about all this AI BS.

I sent an email to my own MP and Marc Miller (Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture) but I figured I'd make it into a template that others can send to their ministers. Also, for the record, I wrote this myself and did NOT use AI to make it lol 😂

Good Morning,

I am a constituent of [YOUR RIDING OR CITY].

I am concerned about the disruption by AI music generation to the Canadian music industry.

It is well documented that all the popular AI music generators have been trained on copyrighted material scrapped from the internet and without licensing or payment to the original artists. Some companies like Suno have publicly admitted to not caring about long standing conventions on copyright and paying royalties to reproduce music. Some US record labels have begun settlements with these companies. These dubious and problematic settlements do not service smaller un-labelled Canadian artists who have had their art stolen. Their stolen work is being used everyday around the world (at significant environmental cost) to reproduce their sound for the profit of users of Suno and other platforms.

Admittedly, these generators do a good job of reproducing the music it was trained on. Most users and even music professionals have a hard time identifying this content. While this music will be “good enough” for most listener, there are significant long term consequences to the proliferation of this kind of content. The use of generative AI has been found to result in de-skilling across many industries. As there is no significant market disincentive to utilize AI generation, artists who do not use AI generation face the risk of being left behind by the industry and not being able to produce music at the same rates that AI production allows. In the long term, we are heading towards a stagnant Canadian music landscape of AI generated music trained AI generated facsimiles and Canadian music producers who have lost the skills to express their creativity.

On April 20, 2026 the streaming service Deezer reported that 44% of daily uploads to its platform were mostly or entirely AI generated. It also reported that 85% of streams of this music are fraudulent. The implication here is staggering. Aside from the disturbing environmental cost required to generate AI music, the same computational (and environmentally damaging) resources are being used to falsely manipulate the algorithms in order to boost the perceived popularity of this music. This means that streamers who do not take action on their own initiative will allows their algorithms to prioritize the recommendation of AI music over that of real Canadian artists.

I hope to discuss and raise the need legislative intervention regarding the monetization and identification of un-ethically trained AI generated content. At present, Canadian consumers (while mostly disliking this content) are not capable of creating enough market pressure to de-incentivize major streaming platforms like Spotify allowing this music to dominate the content it delivers in Canada. We specifically need legislation requiring streaming platforms to:

  • Identify content created by AI
  • Demonetize, or divert revenue from AI generated content to funds for real Canadian artistic development

In addition we need new copyright legislation to:

  • Ban AI generated content from receiving copyright protection.
  • Make a clear distinction that training AI models is not “fair use”
  • Require explicit consent (or opt-in) from artists to use their work for the training of AI models by services, social media, and platforms that host their art.

There is an urgent need for a solution as AI has already flooded the Canadian market. Artists across Canada have already had their work scraped, reproduced, and do not have a clear path to receiving proper royalties or payment for the profit being generated by their work. We need to do something to protect Canadian Art.

Regards,

[Free Audio/For Hire] Tracking Drums all week. Offering to do up to a 2 minute improvised drum solo based on your scene or trailer.

Edit: forgot to add 2 completely free for the first 2 people that comment and send me a dm. I’ll comment when that’s no longer available.

Please don't use AI for you film. Use me!

I'm house-sitting for my parents this week, so I decided to set myself up in the old basement studio to record some drum loops to share royalty free on my site. I figured it'd also be a fun time to record some stuff for other folks too!

I'll be recording on a beautiful 80s (Stop Sign badge) Gretsch kit. Configuration is 22", 12", 14". Snare is my mapex cherry bomb with a calftone head. This setup has a lot of character including a squeaky speed king pedal (wooden beater available). I didn't have any muffling on the snare for the sample recordings, but I'll be adding some on for the next batch of recordings. I have 2 behringer B2s for overheads, an Apex 180 on the snare, SM57 inside the kick, and two Audio-technica tom mics. I'm also recording the stereo out from the Yamaha EAD10 in the "crotch position.

If you're interested in having me (and experienced jazz and multi-genre drummer) perform an improvised solo for your trailer or a scene in your movie, send me a message! I'll perform to the provided video in logic pro after a couple of viewings to get a grasp on the scene. I'll send back 8 stems or stereo drum track.

I'll also be streaming live on instagram Facebook(Lucas Denison) starting at 12pm eastern time and throughout sessions today.

If you miss your chance on getting a free recording, but are still interested I'll work at $30 USD per min for this week only.

[RECORDING] Set up to track drums all week!

FYI, I'm offering to do 3 free tracks for people who comment on my post in the Ottawa Musicians facebook group

If you need tracks for a demo recording, want a specific drum loop for your own work, or maybe you want a fully improvised drum solo to go with some video, let me know! I'm mostly a jazz drummer, but I also play rock, funk, and latin jazz grooves. I'm a fan of metal, but I don't have double chick chops (nor one set up with this kit) or that heavy playing style to deliver something you'd be satisfied with. Send me what you got, and I'll send back your choice of all 8 stems, or a roughly mixed stereo track!

I'll also be streaming throughout recording live on instagram Facebook starting at 12pm!

If you miss your chance on getting a free recording, but still want tracks, shoot me a message and we'll talk rate.

Concert Overture - A Spring Walk

I just uploaded a score video of my first large Orchestral composition.

I'm mostly a jazz musician, so I would love some feedback on the piece (I have done some orchestral playing over the years). Most of my compositions tend to be for jazz trio or quartet but I had a really fun time working on this . I'm working on getting all the parts ready so I can publish it. Definitely already found a few inconsistencies on the score video 😅 but I told myself I needed to be done editing the audio or I'd keep finding new things. I'm leaning towards this being playable by a Youth Orchestra. The horns go a little into the extended range and it would definitely be a tuning challenge for some of the wind instruments.

The piece itself is inspired by taking my dogs for the first walks of spring. Everything is very exciting and a little chaotic. There are new smells, lots of mud, and critters waking up everywhere.

I also feel obliged to give the heads up that the piece is a 13min concert overture.

Anyways, here it is:

Region Bounce in Place issue

I've been working on an orchestral project in Logic Pro using the BBCSO library.

I wan't to bounce all of my tracks so I can actually do a proper mix of everything, but I keep encountering various issue when I try to bounce tracks. Here's one of the more glaring issues that I can't seem to figure out, but this is at least the most consistent. My piece begins with a long tremolo in the strings (I changed to a trill in the attached video while troubleshooting). After 15-20 seconds of the a long note, the audio in the bounce just cuts out. This happens with the sample library installed directly on the my macbook air harddrive as well as on an external ssd.

I'm on an M5 macbook air. I though it might be a lack of ram related issue, so all of the other tracks are off. I also tried removing the negative delay and there was no change. Normalization just made the beginning lounder, but it still cut out after the same amount of time.

I've had success doing a realtime bounce of the entire piece (adding the 2nd pass option) but it's a 13 minute piece and I'd rather not have to do that for each track.

Edit: This occurs when I try bounce other long sustained notes on of the tracks. I also tried the bounces selection instead and the same error occurred.

Edit 2: this also occurs when "Freezing" the track

Edit 3: Loaded up an empty project to test. I loaded up a different contact instrument and did not have the same issue. I'm leaning towards this being an issue with the BBCSO (Core and Pro, haven't tried Discover)

I did up a promo video with a recording I had from a jazz trio gig back in October. It’s Wonderwall by Oasis and feature Nick Gummeson on piano, Mark Fraser on Bass, and me on Drums.

The sound was recorded on my iPhone 13 Pro. I was able to use the stem splitter in logic to help remix the track. I’ve also blended the live piano track with a midi transcription of the performance to give it a bit more depth than my phone could capture!
