Sneak Peek at v1.5.0: Advanced Running Dynamics, Load Focus & Sleep Debt. Getting closer!

Hey everyone,

Thanks to everyone who stress-tested the last build and provided feedback.
Here is a quick look at what’s currently on the workbench for the upcoming Version 1.5.0.

What’s coming in v1.5.0:

🏃‍**♂️ Deep Running Dynamics: Apple Watch captures incredible data that often gets buried. We are bringing it front and center. Your run logs will now include Running Power, Vertical Oscillation, Stride Length, Cadence, and Ground Contact T**ime.

⚖️** Load Focus**: Are you doing too much threshold work and not enough base building? The new Load Focus feature breaks down your recent training into intensity buckets (Anaerobic, High Aerobic, Low Aerobic) to ensure your programming is actually balanced. We’re also adding the 3-month Acute Training Load (ATL) charts for long-term macrocycle tracking.

🔋 Sleep Debt & Sleep Bank: Moving beyond just the nightly sleep score. The algorithm now calculates your rolling Sleep Debt and Sleep Bank. If you shortchange your sleep during the week, the app will objectively show you how much you need to catch up on the weekend to properly recover from your current Training Load.

🫀 HR Zones at a Glance: I heard you loud and clear. Zone 1-3 and Zone 4-5 distribution will now be visible right on the main overview screen.

🪜 Flights Climbed: Added to the daily dashboard.

🛠 The Fixes you asked for:
Complications Sync: I’ve completely rewritten the background refresh logic for the Apple Watch complications. They should now update much more aggressively in the background.

Data Alignment: Fixed the bug where the "below/above average" green area was showing slight discrepancies between the Watch and iOS app.

Post-Workout HR: Improved the visualization of the post-workout Heart Rate chart.

Localization

As always: Your data stays on your device. Buy once, no monthly subscriptions.

I love my AW Ultra, but hated the subscription apps for recovery. So I built a one-time purchase app with Garmin-level metrics.

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, I switched to the Apple Watch Ultra for its hardware, display, and cellular capabilities. But as someone balancing a hybrid training schedule—mixing heavy metabolic conditioning like CrossFit and Hyrox with high-mileage marathon prep—Apple’s native Health metrics weren't giving me the whole picture. I needed to know exactly how much gas I had in the tank.

I tried the popular third-party apps, but I was tired of the "subscription fatigue". Paying $30-$80 a year just to see algorithms process health data that my watch already collected didn't sit right with me.

So, I built SportVitals.

It’s designed to bring the hardcore, analytical features you’d expect from a Garmin device straight to watchOS and iOS, processing everything locally on your device. No SaaS tax, no monthly fees. You buy it once.

Here is what the engine actually calculates:

  • Real Body Battery (Energy Level): Not just a morning score. It’s a dynamic 0-100 metric that drains based on your real-time stress (HRV/RMSSD) and workouts, and recharges when you rest.
  • Training Load (TSB Model): We use the Banister TRIMP model to calculate your Acute (7-day) and Chronic (42-day) training load, telling you if your current block is Productive, Overreaching, or Peaking.
  • Recovery Time: Objective countdowns in hours before your next intense session, based on the EPOC of your latest workouts.
  • Endurance & Hill Scores: Long-term metrics tailored to your baseline to predict race readiness.

Privacy & Tech: Everything is read directly from HealthKit (including the new watchOS Workout Effort Scores and beat-to-beat HRV). Calculations are done entirely on your iPhone/Watch. No cloud processing, no data selling.

I’m launching this as a tool for data-driven athletes who want precision without the rent.

I’d love for the AW Ultra community to tear it apart, test the algorithms, and tell me what’s missing. You can check it out on the App Store here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sportvitals/id6781699989 or join the discussion on our dedicated sub at r/SportVitals.

Let me know what you think. I'll be in the comments to answer any technical questions about how we calculate the metrics!

👋 Welcome to r/SportVitals - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Welcome everyone. This subreddit is the official community for SportVitals, the watchOS and iOS app built to bring advanced training algorithms directly to the Apple ecosystem, without the SaaS tax.

https://apps.apple.com/it/app/sportvitals/id6781699989

Why SportVitals?

The Apple Watch is an exceptional piece of hardware, but its native interpretation of physiological data often falls short for athletes who need precise load management. As someone who balances a hybrid training schedule—managing the metabolic stress of CrossFit and Hyrox alongside the high-mileage demands of marathon prep—I needed a tool that accurately calculates compounding fatigue.

Existing solutions either gatekeep your own health data behind expensive monthly subscriptions. SportVitals was built to solve this problem.

Core Features

SportVitals processes your HealthKit data (including beat-to-beat HRV, Sleep Stages, and Workout Effort Scores) entirely locally on your device to deliver:

  • Training Load (TSB Model): Acute (ATL) and Chronic (CTL) load tracking to determine if you are Peaking, Productive, or Overreaching.
  • Body Battery: A real-time 0-100 score of your systemic capacity, calculating the physiological drain from stress and workouts, and the recharge from rest.
  • Recovery Time: Objective countdowns in hours based on EPOC and TRIMP calculations from your latest sessions.
  • Advanced Predictors: Endurance Score, Hill Score, and Race Predictors tailored to your baseline.

The Business Model is simple: Your data, your device, no monthly fees. You buy it once.

What this subreddit is for

This space is for data-driven athletes and early adopters. Use this community to:

  • Discuss the Algorithms: We build in public. Ask questions about how we calculate RMSSD or apply the Banister TRIMP model.
  • Request Features & Report Bugs: You have a direct line to the development pipeline.
  • Share your Dashboards: Show how you are balancing your training load and recovery cycles.

To get started, drop a comment below introducing yourself, what disciplines you train for, and what metric you've been missing the most on your Apple Watch.

Welcome aboard. Let's get to work.
