The way some ‘allies’ don’t date bi people is deeply disturbing to me…

Can’t edit flair but essentially a discussion on biphobia

Of course everyone is entitled to their attraction, but as an ally have you ever tried to… you know, examine why you automatically cross out an entire demographic of people who have nothing in common other than their sexuality??? Like that’s kind of what allies do, learning to support better? Honestly I’m glad they don’t force themselves to because as a bi woman when I was in a more fragile period of my life desperate for connection an ‘ally’ bf that hated my attraction to women and made me feel guilty for it would absolutely wreck me. It’s just really unsettling how someone can do that.

Give me that sweet tragedy

I’m reading The Priory of the Orange Tree right now and although it’s not the worst book in the world I kind of feel nothing? I just got to the part where the red head prince arrived at Inys and I’m finally slightly excited because of the interpersonal potential of a celebration with multiple nations in attendance!

The characters feel too one dimensional and simple, for the most part. Especially Tane’s YA I’m gonna beat them all and become the chosen dragon warrior! Plotline. I know this isn’t a YA book but I feel like their motives are all so easily understood and consistent (which you’d think is good but actually feels formulaic) which breaks my immersion a little.

I guess that’s the side effect of reading that and Interview with the Vampire at the same time. The latter is also slow but the characters feel so complex and also emotionally stunted in a real way that makes me invested in their story. I’m also just a huge fan of melodrama, gothic elements, and complex character work in general (my favorite book is Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier). For those who haven’t read both there’s a lot of psychological tension, overthinking, philosophical rambles and feelings. And honestly I’d love to see that in a fantastical setting where more things happen (because let’s be honest the plot in gothic fiction is mainly vibes only), and I’d really like some recommendations.

Yes I’ve read Circe and The Song of Achilles, enjoyed the former more but thought both were strong and Circe was my favourite book for a while. However it doesn’t really scratch that itch of “many things happening”, and it’s mainly character driven and I’m looking for more plot.

I also liked This is How You Lose the Time War but it lacks that same plot and world significance like in Circe and TSOA.

Surprisingly didn’t like The Night Circus that much because though the atmosphere carried the characters were lackluster.

So yeah, give me that sweet tragic feeling I get from reading gothic books in a fantasy setting where things are actually happening 😭 I don’t care if it’s “overindulgent” or “overdramatic” I just need to feel something when I’m slogging through a big fantasy book. I don’t want to understand the characters from the first page I want to feel like I need to hit up my English lit professor to discuss the nature of the characters for hours and it still not being enough.

It could have a happy ending, but honestly so much of what I’ve read recently have had happy endings I think I’d like some serious tragedies. Bonus points if a character goes from innocent to corrupted and/or has an existential crisis or a self loathing arc. Love to see the self sabotage :)

Thanks in advance!!!

Looking for grimdark fantasy centering on the messed up relationship of two evil people

I usually don’t really read a lot of heavy fantasy, especially adult fantasy. I tend to steer more towards literary fiction.

Recently after playing a few rpgs I’ve taken a bigger interest in the genre. Specifically the potential of it for character studies. I really want to read something about the dynamics of two messed up people who are different flavours of evil. Like perhaps one is just obsessed with murder while the other is trying to build a multi-continent empire. Perhaps one is devoutly religious and the other is a nihilistic assassin. Honestly the perfect dynamic in my head would be the pope of a corrupt cult allying with a guild leader temporarily to overthrow the monarchy but immediately turning on each other during the aftermath. I like the idea of caring for somebody but being loyal to your own cause (whatever it may be) that makes you betray them, do horrible things to them, but then still come back at the end. However it should be very reciprocate, don’t want a situation where one person is just tanking the toxicity 😅 So yes murder, torture, betrayal are all very welcomed.

With romance or without are both fine. However it is pride month and I’m really not in the mood of reading straight romances. For romance honestly I think I fall into the camp where I do like it a lot in stories, but I love the subtext more than anything. Some of my favourite “romantic” subtexts are in Dorian Gray and Babel, so though I adore romance I only want a sprinkle.

However the characters should still deeply care for one another, or hold deep admiration for the another person. I like evil characters who genuinely care about other people haha.

Some things I’ve heard recommended to me before are Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell and The Lies of Locke Lamora and I will get to them one day.

Thank you guys so much in advance!

The poor Tieflings…

I saved the tieflings from the goblins in act 1. Felt bad for them since their city got swallowed up by hell and them getting threatened by everyone. Figured I’d meet them in Baldur’s Gate settling down and turning a fresh leaf, that would be nice…

I just saved them from the prison, tracked down Rolan and brought him back. Still got no idea where Zevlor or Mol are… Found poor Arabella and her parents… Can’t imagine losing your parents and ending up alone in a dark cursed land. What a tragic bunch. It seems that everywhere they go death and suffering follows them…

I really hope they get a happy ending, I really like all of them. Alfira’s songs. Rolan’s arrogance and attitude. Zevlor’s care. Dammon’s talent. Cal and Lia’s dynmaic with their haughty brother. Arabella’s strength. Mol and the gang’s trust in my tav… I can remember most of them so clearly it never happens with a large group of npcs like this :( Hope the suffering ends for them after this

I saved up so much gold to buy this good armour for my tav and she ended up having to shed it off during battle because it stopped her from casting spells. What did I do???

▲ 2 r/ACL

I has 90% ACL tear and meniscus damage. I got the surgery where they bypass your bone (Sorry I don’t know the direct translation) since I’m still growing. It’s been 12 hours and how do you guys stay motivated? I’ve had two separate painkiller injection and am feeling no better. Ironically, the painkillers hurts a lot! I wish I could put the pillow under my knee or sleep sideways but that’s not allowed. I’m so dizzy I got no food in and sitting up makes me want to puke. Every bathroom trip feels like a huge challenge and I have to hop my way there. I just got my surgery and already feeling awfully bleak. Missing out on most of my remaining school days and having to brace myself when I move my leg is really bringing me down. As well as the knowledge that I’m gonna regress in my sports since I cant do it for nearly a year. What strategies do you guys use to cope with this?
