Hey all,

I've got a friend in China who made a reservation for a Marriott hotel in Manchester through a 3rd party hotel booking app. She made it in April and the reservation is for August.

Unfortunately she has recently suffered health issues that have led to her cancelling the August trip, but she has been unable to cancel the hotel stay. I called the hotel and the guy said because it was a prepaid booking and the cancellation period has already been and gone, there's nothing she can do except change the date.

Are there any options open to her in order to actually cancel the trip and get her money back? If exceptional circumstances are on the table, she has official documentation from the hospital advising her against traveling, of course it's probably in Chinese.
