Housing/Roommate Issues

Hey everyone, I need any and all advice i could get on this situation. I'm a returning student and I'm an alternative for SL but housing managed to somehow miss me on the list for early dorm selection and I never got a chance to pick my own room.

I emailed housing later about it and they just said that they'll assign me to a room if I mentioned my requirements and added me to a room that matches my requirements kind of but not my best option and I'm still very annoyed by it.

I moved in today only to find out that my roommate who moved in earlier than me has occupied 70% of the room, blocked off the window with her bed and mattress topper with no air circulation now, filled the common shared 5 level huge shelf in the wall with her things. There's just no space for me to organize any of my stuff.

I tried talking to her and explaining how we could reorganize but she kept trying to avoid or postpone the topic. Then just said she understands where I'm coming from but that she doesn't want to change anything because it's not convenient for her.

What do I even do in this situation? Communication is not the answer because I tried that key already and it's clearly not working. Can I take this to an SL or just email housing about this messed up situation and request to accommodate me?

I'm also easily prone to getting skin allergies and rashes in hot rooms and with how she set up her stuff, I'm practically stuck in a corner with little to no breathing space and I feel so suffocated. Can housing accommodate me in this situation?

Can I move in after school starts

I'm a returning student and my initial move in date was the 21st but I recently joined a short summer school program that runs from 19th through 24th.

Housing asked me to pay for early move in to move in on 17th and that I'll be assigned a random room from which I have to check out on the 18th. I can't move in on 18th since it's apparently reserved for freshmen only.

Now idk if I'll get access to my room on 18th to move my stuff in so I can leave on 19th for my program.

Is it possible to move in after school starts at all in case I dont get access to my room?

PM Portfolio project research

Hi everyone! I'm researching how students manage group projects for my product management portfolio project. If you're currently or have recently worked on a group project, I'd love to have a quick chat with you about how your group managed/communicated throughout the project. I'm not pitching an app or selling anything, I'm just trying to understand what actually goes wrong during collaboration for personal research. If you're interested, comment or DM me. Thank you all so much! I'd greatly appreciate the help 🙏🏻

Study tips for PL 300 & DP 600?

Hey guys, I'm a recent CS grad and want to apply to data analyst roles. I got free vouchers to finish these two certifications and I'm required to complete DP 600 by August 31st to claim the voucher. I've read that completing PL 300 before DP 600 is better and provides enough knowledge and understanding on the concepts covered.

Is this too little time to study for both certifications and aim to pass them? What resources helped you all pass the exams? Any advice and guidance is very appreciated. Thank you!

Should I go to grad school?

Hey everyone. I'm a recent CS graduate and haven't been able to secure an internship nor full time position yet and I feel lost on what to do. Because of my school having an undergrad + graduate program, I was able to finish a significant amount of courses required for grad school in my senior year and only have 1 year worth of credits left to earn my master's degree.

But now I'm wondering if I should continue school or defer my admission to focus on getting certifications and applying for jobs for a while. The school would allow me to defer my admission for a few years or so and continue later so I'm not worried about applying again. But I'd have to pay about $16k over the next year for master's.

I'm particularly aiming for product management, data analysts and adjacent roles instead of Software engineering roles. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Recent graduate seeking career advice

Hey everyone! I'm a recent CS graduate looking to get project management roles but it seems impossible. I've been in student clubs where I was a PM for a few projects and gained some experience. Most are still in development when I graduated but one of the projects was successfully deployed, so I'd say I have experience with at least one full project lifecycle.

I was struggling financially during my degree and couldn't get internships as I was working part time and didn't do well on personal projects to help me in that aspect. Now I'm wondering what would be the best way to finally get a PM role.

I've been looking online and some suggested a data analyst role and pivoting into PM later works best. Could you all give your suggestions and advice on this? Thank you all so much in advance!

I'm so lost and need genuine advice

I graduated from college with a B.S. in computer science about a month ago. I've been applying to jobs all year long and it's so frustrating that most of them don't even get a response, some result in an interview and don't move forward and some just send a generic rejection email.

I also partly missed out on building as much experience due to financial issues and working part time and generally being beyond stressed the first couple years of my degree and I'm trying so hard to catch up but I feel like it's impossible at this point.

I was a part of a club two years ago where I was asked to be a project manager and since then I've taken an interest in project management and have been learning about it. I had other PM positions across different projects as a student in clubs and a research project and have been hoping to break into this career path but I feel so discouraged and lost.

Me not having a job is getting even more stressful as days drag on with no income and I'm afraid it's gonna lead to bigger family drama as well and I do not know what to do anymore.

Could anyone give me any advice on how to navigate this or where to look for to apply for more positions that are at least similar?
