Is this temp safe for batteries?

Renault mégane IV E-tech (2020). In spring it used to max 45*C when I used 16A, fan was blowing. Now it is 36*C and sunny outside. I use 10A charging now and never seen this high temp 74*C with fan blowing loud. Is it safe to charge it now or should I wait for night/park in garage?

Unusual transmission in your PHEV

I think many of you seen already Technology connection video about Toyota hybrid transmission. I would like to share how Renault resolved problem of transmission with Multi mode gearbox.

My Renault Megane IV E-Tech has 1.6 naturally aspirated ICE engine with 68 kW power and two electric motors all combining in 120kW (90/160 HP). It has 10kWh battery with about 50km range (30 miles). Transmission is automatic, sequential and has no clutch. Gears are synchronized with the help of auxiliary electric motor resulting in very smooth shifts. There are 2 electric gears and 4 ICE gears. Auxiliary electric motor also starts ICE motor.

It works in different modes:

  1. Pure ev mode - it's using main electric motor on first gear up to about 70km/h (43mph) and shifts to second gear above this speed. You can notice mechanic sound of shifting when merging into highway and short lose of power.
  2. Serial mode - it's used when battery is low (below 10%) and car don't need much power. Auxiliary motor works as generator. ICE is disconnected from wheels.
  3. Parallel mode - it's used when you push gas hard over pure EV power limit, switch to sport mode or during long trips with battery drained. Charges battery with surplus power.
  4. Performance mode - it's basically parallel but car keeps battery at 70% for long uphill drives.
  5. Regenerative braking - with stick you can choose gas pedal-off braking or brake pedal braking mode.

In my experience EV Pure mode is enough for commuting both in city and on city bypass on second gear. ICE engine engages fast when you need extra power. Sport mode gives good power without delay. Unfortunately in winter battery barely keep power especially when parking outside. This transmission looks like really astonishing engineering but I'm a bit worried about repair costs with that complexity. It's 100 000km and no malfunctions yet. Other thing that worry me is that Renault no longer produce this type of transmission and it might be hard to service. At least I don't have to worry about clutch.

What is a type of transmission in your car? Does it have some distinct features?
