Adding Nest Wifi router to app, without active network connection?
I'm trying to guide a relative in setting up a new cable modem internet connection and Google Nest Wifi router. Since the cable internet connection is new, it's not activated yet, and has to be activated through a web interface (for Spectrum), once you have a device on the network. To get a device on the network, they need to connect the Nest Router to the cable modem, add it to Google Home, add the device, and join the wifi network.
The problem: in the app, they can "add device", scan the QR code, it connects to the Nest Router, and then says that it's checking the connection. After quite a while, it says that there's no internet, and then I guess just goes back to the Google Home main screen, without adding the Nest Router. So, it doesn't let them name the network, set a password, add it to a home, etc.
They've tried power cycling it a number of times, but it's always the same story. I have an old school google wifi mesh network of my own, and I know that in principle it's possible to manage a Google Wifi router when the internet connection isn't working. But what about adding the device in the app? The google home app is really being very unhelpful here! Thanks!
