My dad has been using a Citi Costco card for some time now, and recently he discovered there was a bunch of fraudulent charges dating all the way back from last year. All from Auntie Anne's, Dominos, Charleys Cheesteaks, Walmart, and Instacart. He canceled that card, received a new one in the mail yesterday, and when he went online to activate it, there were already charges starting from three whole days ago. And all of these charges were for Uber. How is it even possible that someone is already using this card even BEFORE it's activated??? Like genuinely what's the point of the card activation system if someone is going to be able to use it without activation??? Wondering if anyone else has ever had a similar experience, or if someone is able to offer some kind of explanation for such a thing. My dad spoke to Citi customer support and they were ZERO help. He expressed the issue multiple times and the support lady kept hitting him with the "I'm sorry about that" and "We'll start an investigation," offering no kind of possible explanation at all. Extremely frustrating.
