Last weeks together

I’ve been nannying for the same family for the last 4 years, and our time is coming to an end soon. I started nannying for them when their daughter was 4 months old (she’s now 4y/o) and have been with them through the pregnancy and birth of their now 2 y/o son. Their son is going into preschool this fall, so the parents let me know a few months ago that they would no longer need me. I’ve found another family that I’m going to be starting with at the end of the month, but I’ve officially hit the point of being in my last 2 weeks with my current family and I’m just honestly miserable right now.

This is the first family I’ve ever nannied for, and it’s complicated because they’ve never been a perfect match for me, and I have high hopes that the new family I’m starting with is going to be a better opportunity and a better fit for me overall. I’m excited to start with the new family, but I just love these kids so much and I’m struggling with coping with the end of this. To go from seeing them every day for the last 4 years to seeing them every once in a while for date nights is just tough for me to wrap my head around. I’ve cried so much over the last few months because I’ve been dreading the end of this, and now it’s here and I’m still just struggling with it a lot.

I don’t have any nanny friends and I feel like my family/friends can’t really understand how hard it is to say goodbye. I come home from work crying regularly and there’s genuinely just nothing to do about it. I’m trying to just enjoy our last two weeks and be present for our time left, but it’s hard when I keep seeing every day as one of our last. I just feel awful for the big change the kids will be going through too, I feel like they won’t understand the situation since they’re so young. I know they’ll be okay, but I don’t want to scare them by being emotional on our last day together since they’ve never seen me cry. But there’s just no way I won’t be a puddle that day. I’m a pretty anxious person anyways and now that we’ve hit the point of being in our last 2 weeks together I’m just feeling so much dread and anxiety as that day approaches. I just don’t know how to do this.
