What's a core starter repertoire?
What I have pieced together, from my previous question here and other sources, is that DC has bal folk dancers but few musicians.
As a musician myself and I'm happy to give it a chance. What's a basic repertoire you would point a beginner to? I'm not committing to anything but, for the sake of the argument, a list with enough material to cover 2 hours with a good mix of dance types.

Bal folk community in DC?
Does anyone know if there's a bal folk community in Washington, DC? I was able to find breadcrumbs of activity until 2020 but it looks like the closest music session is now in Baltimore. Or is there something informal going on with little internet footprint?

Looking for anyone in DC playing bal folk music
Anyone in DC playing balfolk?
Long shot, but worth asking. I have become very interested in bal folk lately as a player -- not really looking to dance.
The internet tells me that there used to be a Facebook community but it's been inactive since COVID and the FSGW's Takoma Park bal folk is on hiatus. I also know there is a contra and barn scene in Silver Spring and in Glenn Echo but it seems to be focused on dance. I did find a couple of sessions in Baltimore and PGC and the question is whether there is anything closer.
- Is anyone playing this repertoire in DC proper? House sessions, anything informal and unlisted?
- Anyone teaching repertoire around here?
- Actually, anyone know what happened to the Bal DC crowd?
Tangential leads count! If there is a contra music session going on, I'd love to hear about it.

30 aniversario do "Navicularia" de Berrogüetto. É o mellor disco de folk galego?
Como di o autor aquí, un disco que "reinterpretaba desde a música de raíz cun xeito creativo, sorprendente, detallista pero sen resultar ampuloso, tan tradicional como moderno, cun recendo a jazz e multiculturalidade.
Sobre todo, sobrevive moi ben 30 anos despois, algo que non se pode dicir de moitos outros discos da época. O único disco de Matto Congrio saíu tres anos antes e o seu estilo parece moito máis vello en comparación. Milladoiro sacou "As fadas de estrano nome" (un directo na Arxentina) o ano anterior e o grupo, por moito que me doia, xa sonaba repetitivo. "A irmandade das estrelas" de Carlos Nuñez tamén saiu en 1996 pero penso que o seu valor debe moito ás colaboracións.
"Navicularia" -- máis alá de calidade técnica e excelentes composicións e arranxos -- define un son de seu, fácilmente recoñecible e con durabilidade. Algo que poucos outros discos galegos acadaron.
