So worried about the next couple of months
So I’m on day 6 of this horrible virus, I went to the doctor yesterday to get it checked out, originally thought it was just a throat infection, but pretty sure it’s mono (all my symptoms synch up) and I’ve never felt worse than this. My neck and throat are so swollen, my tonsils are like two golf balls in the back of my throat and I’ve had fever up and down, and a nonstop headache. I have zero appetite, I can only (barely) eat yoghurt, ice cream, and drink milk, water and tea. It’s gotten to the point where I can very barely swallow my spit, and I’m really worried it will eventually get to that point.
The thing I’m worried about and try not to stress about too much, are my studies. I’m on my last year of my master degree so it’s a very important year, and I just feel a little hopeless reading the stories of other people who have mono. I’m studying teaching, and at my uni it’s a minimum 80% attendance to be able to take the exam, and we have only 1 day a week at uni. This is of course great because it gives me time to hopefully recover, but also means I can’t have many sickdays before I reach the 20% attendance limit. I just don’t want to delay my studies because it’s the last year and everything has gone smoothly so far. Of course if I don’t recover and have to skip, then it is what it is. Has any uni students gotten this RIGHT after semester start, how did you manage it combined with studies, and how long did the worst period last?
Also just wondering if anyone has any tips to relieve the stress, and also to reduce the pain in my throat? I take paracetamol and ibuprofen mainly for the pain and it has helped with the fever, and my doc recommended some temporarily pain relief medicines for my throat to make it easier to eat, which I feel hasn’t really worked. I try to sleep when I can (when the pain isn’t so bad) but I don’t really get more than maybe 2 hours of sleep whenever I do try to sleep, but I do take naps at daytime which I’ve read is good to do. I just love being out and about and being active, working, being busy, so it almost feels like I’m in jail when I have to stay at home like this and I just hope I won’t go insane. Again, any tips are much appreciated <3
