Mata Baglamukhi Temple, Vankhandi, Kangra
Baglamukhi Mata Temple usually refers to one of India’s three principal, historically significant Siddha Peethas dedicated to Goddess Baglamukhi. Goddess Baglamukhi (also known as Pitambara Mata) is the eighth Mahavidya among the ten powerful forms of Adi Shakti.Located in Bankhandi along the Chandigarh-Dharamshala Highway (NH503), She is deeply revered for Stambhan Shakti—the divine power to paralyze negative forces, silence enemies, and grant victory in complex legal or personal battles.
Because the color yellow is sacred to the goddess, all of her major temples are strictly themed in yellow. The structures, deity garments (chola), and traditional offerings like turmeric, yellow flowers, and besan laddoos create a visually stunning yellow aesthetic.
🌟 Key Highlights & Rituals
The Power of Yellow: Known as Peetambhara (she who wears yellow), the goddess's entire temple is painted yellow. Devotees traditionally wear yellow clothing and offer items like turmeric, yellow flowers, and besan laddoos.
Unique Triad Iconography: This is the only shrine where Mata Baglamukhi is flanked by Lakshmi and Saraswati, representing unified aspects of Goddess Parvati.
Tantric Havans: The temple is globally famous for its powerful fire sacrifices (Yajnas) performed at the ancient havan kund. Devotees can book these online via the Prachin Mandir Trust Website to pray for protection or success.
History and Legends
Cosmic Storm: According to the Puranas, a devastating cosmic storm threatened to destroy the universe during the Satya Yuga. Lord Vishnu performed strict penance near a turmeric lake (Haridra Sarovar), prompting the goddess to emerge and paralyze (Stambhan) the storm.
The Pandavas' Exile: Local legend holds that the temple was built overnight by the Pandavas during their Agyaat Vaas (exile) in the Dwapara Yuga. Bhima and Arjuna performed rituals here to gain cosmic strength.
Lord Rama's Worship: It is believed that Lord Rama also worshipped the goddess here under Hanuman's guidance to obtain the Brahmastra needed to defeat Ravana.
