guys i'm just trying to wrap my head around wtf is actually going on with our batting

i see everyone in the match threads crying about why we are suddenly playing so timid and why the middle order is just anchoring instead of going all out. but like can you really blame the players? look at the environment management just created. it's completely toxic.

you want players to play fearless t20 cricket?

they need to know they have backing. instead, management has turned the dressing room into the hunger games

just look at how they handled surya. the guy literally captained us to a world cup win. and what do they do? they sack him. they sacked our wc-winning captain without him even playing a SINGLE GAME after lifting the trophy. imagine being in that dressing room watching the captain get booted before he even takes the field again. it tells you nobody is safe.

and then there's sanju. bro played 3 absolute beast innings to win us the wc. he was literally the player of the tournament. fast forward exactly 3 games into this new cycle and he's getting dropped just to make room for the vaibhav ipl hype train? don't get me wrong, vaibhav looks special(i'm rr fan im all for it), but throwing your wc hero under the bus 3 matches later just to appease media narratives is pure disrespect.

to make it even worse, they pull this political bs with the vice captaincy. giving it to an out of form tilak varma is the exact same shubman gill tactic they pulled last year. they slap a VC tag on a struggling guy just so they have a built in excuse not to drop him, while guys like patidar who actually deserve a shot just sit on the bench.

so put yourself in ishan or tilak's shoes. you walk out to bat knowing management has zero patience. you know that if a wc-winning captain and the POTT aren’t safe you stand absolutely zero chance if you get out cheaply.

so what do you do? you go into pure survival mode. you take zero risks, anchor the innings and just try to scratch out a safe 40 so you don't lose your spot next match. you literally cannot blame them for batting selfishly when there's a gun to their heads.

add that massive wave of insecurity to the fact that they aren't playing on flat ipl highways anymore and of course the system collapses

management is actively ruining a world cup winning formula 3 games in. am i just overthinking this or are they actually destined to fuck this up completely?

yeah hardik hasn’t been in form past few years but man he’s still a solid all-rounder and a great addition for balance

EDIT : Also let’s not forget the only reason we’re even relying on trades and begging for lower-order all-rounders is because dravid fucked up the retentions and the mega auction. tbh part of me would rather just eat another bad season than do this trade, just so we can keep jaiswal and rebuild the team around him, vaibhav, and archer in the next mega auction.

all three played 14 matches and they are literally so close to each other

yes jurel plays a bit steadier and his style is different than sanju and buttler

but that doesnt mean hes slow or something

hes not ending up with some pathetic 130 sr like gaikwad pooran pant rahane stubbs so many big players

the main thing is vaibhav is playing at such insane tempo that he makes everyone look bad

even jaiswal our golden boy looks slower next to him

jurel is giving his best in the middle order

of course he can improve and i know he will do much better next season

this hate towards him is just unnecessary tbh

he is given that role by the management to steady our ship

This is how many times each of our middle order have managed to score a decent number of runs (exc ones where they did not have enough time)

Parag - 2 from 10 - 20%

Donovan - 4 from 11 - 36%

Hetmyer - 1 from 7 - 14%

Dubey - 1 from 5 - 20%

Shanaka - 1 from 3 - 33%

On average between them 1 out of 5 will have a decent game - and majority of time that has been about 30 - 40 runs before getting out. Jurel on the metrics I used above has had 9 games out of 14 where he has contributed a decent number (64% of games).

Jurel actually went for it in first 4 games, with strike rate of 181, but then his more aggressive approach meant he got out early for 3 games in a row, and it became very apparent that if he didn't hang around the rest of the middle order wouldn't either (our 3 lowest scores), so he had to take one for the team and prize his wicket.

His batting partner does better when he hangs around (Vaibhav 100, Parag 95, Parag fastest 50 vs - Jaiswal twice out under 10 & Vaibhav over of dots before wicket when he got out early), and we score more when he hangs around (200+ all but one game when he faced over 10 balls, and not once when he got out before this).

hear me out guys ik the top order for India t20 is totally full right now. abhishek and sanju are killing it in powerplay and even ishan at 3 is fixed there. its fair

but i was thinking
why we only want vaibhav to open???

why not put him in the team at 4 or 5 as a finisher
his hitting can destroy any bowling attack easily. anyway he plays most balls in the air so why not try him where we actually have space in the team
lets not make such a generational talent wait too much for his debut

he can just come in the middle overs and smash the bowlers to put pressure back on them. we already have powerplay bashers like sanju and abhishek so why not use vaibhav where india lacks fire power and intent

def can play him at 4 or 5 instead of surya or tilak also what u guys think??
