Trying to find a job at the Port — what am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to Everett and I've been trying to explore jobs at the Port.

I really love the maritime industry and getting a job there would honestly be a dream come true.

Right now, I have a career in software engineering, but I'm not very happy doing it. I'm completely open to making a career change just to do something I actually love.

I've been checking their website and LinkedIn, but I haven't gotten any responses and rarely see active listings. It feels like there are no jobs available, which is confusing because I read a stat saying they have 40,000 jobs. (Though I'm starting to wonder if that means jobs supported by the port in the region, rather than direct hires?)

What am I doing wrong? Does anyone here work for the Port or know the best way to get a foot in the door? Any advice would be super appreciated. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I don't usually post on Reddit and I'm very introverted, so please don't make me regret sharing this.

I used to take a puff of weed every time before having a cigarette. I smoke about 10 cigarettes a day, so you can do the math. Sometimes it was more, sometimes less, but I haven't skipped a single day in the last 4 years.

Recently, I got really sick with a sinus infection and I haven't had weed or cigarettes for about two weeks now. (Not going to lie, I tried a cigarette but couldn't handle it). I said to myself, 'This is my chance to quit once and for all.'

Do you think I'm lying to myself and I'll go right back to it once I'm feeling better? Or have any of you successfully quit through a similar situation?

Thanks.
