Laser-sharp 21 M-C Burgergarten Erste Lage, heatwave buster.
So insanely delicious. Just entering the drinking window, bursting with laser-sharp electricity. Nose is expressive showing white peach, granitic minerality, almond nougat, white flowers.
Palate hits hard with green apple acidity, tarragon, thyme, lime peel, saline. Opens up in the glass. Early accessibility for a 1G at 5 years old. Showing up with a golden hue.
It’s powerful stuff on a hot summer day, and perfectly paired with an Uzbek lamb shank from Tashkent (wow, can we talk about how good Tashkent is?!). I did not expect riesling would stand up to lamb shank, but damn. Magical pairing.
Zalto burgundy glass really brings it home. I wished I had more bottles to see this thing evolve. Plenty of runway ahead. A lot of this lines up with my notes on the 2016 last year.
Brings back awesome memories of visiting the estate last year. It’s a grand old estate in the best of ways, and it’s totally reflected in the bottle.
