Whatever Happened to Crossover Fandoms?

I remember getting into the Rise of the Brave Tangled (Frozen) Dragons fandom pretty late and not finding much going on when I did.

And there were similar fandoms like Steven Falls Over (Steven Universe/Gravity Falls/Over the Garden Wall) and SuperWhoLock (Supernatural/Doctor Who/Sherlock). I never got into either because I was never that into Steven Universe or Supernatural.

What I found fascinating was how some people chose to take a bunch of unrelated films and TV shows with similar aspects and decided to throw them all together.

I realized recently that there really isn’t a fandom like that these days. I wonder why that is though.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why we don’t see crossover fandoms like these anymore?

[Loved Trope] Pretending to be Psychic because the Truth is More Unbelievable

**Psych**: In the pilot, the cops have such a hard time believing Shawn could deduce the tip he called in regarding a kidnapping they’re investigating that he instead pretends to be psychic, using his photographic memory and highly honed deductive skills to do so. This is his shtick for the whole series.

**iZombie**: By virtue of being a zombie, Liv has flashes of memories of the people whose brains she eats. She uses these to help her detective associate Clive Babineaux to solve murders and such. However to keep her true nature a secret, she instead claims these flashes are psychic visions.

**Totally Killer**: Jamie uses a time machine to go back in time to stop a slasher killer who killed her mom’s friends in the past and then comes back in the present to kill her. In order to explain to her mom how she knew how and when her friend would die, Jamie claims that she’s psychic.

**The Multiverse in a Nutshell**: In this Equestria Girls fanfic, Sunset and her friends try to close the portal to Equestria in anticipation of their graduation but it explodes and scatters them across the multiverse. Sunset ends up befriending Penn, the author’s self-insert, and they go on a journey through the multiverse to find Sunset’s friends.

One story arc has them in the world of *RWBY* during its first season where Sunset joins Team RWBY in an effort to stop the tragedies that Penn, being a big fan, knows is coming. At one point, Sunset explains to Ruby how Penn knows what’s going to happen by implying that his semblance is seeing the future.

Idea for a Legacy Sequel to Nightmare on Elm Street

Here’s an idea I have for a legacy sequel for the original A Nightmare on Elm Street films that really emphasizes the legacy part.

We begin sometime in the past after 2003. A weakened Freddy is forced to possess a dude and once again goes on a kill spree on Elm Street. Eventually a mob of angry parents and cops catch up to him and he ends up burning alive as well. Dying like this causes his soul and Freddy’s to fuse and so he comes back in the present as essentially a new Freddy Kruger to once again terrorize Elm Street.

I’ll grant I drew some inspiration from the Candyman reboot.

But here’s the kicker. This film should be written and/or directed by Jonathan Craven, the son of Wes Craven. Among its cast it should include Lily-Rose Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp (Glen from the first NOES), and Ariana Greenblatt, the daughter of Shon Greenblatt (John Doe from Freddy’s Dead). There should also be an appearance by Ryan Sherman, the son of Lisa Wilcox (Alice Johnson from NOES 4 & 6).

Recently I Learned About Jonathan Craven

So this is Jonathan Craven. He’s the son Wes Craven, the original creator of the Scream movies.

He’s something of a filmmaker himself. He coproduced a remake of his father’s film The Last House on the Left. He also wrote and coproduced the sequel to the remake of The Hills Have Eyes alongside his father Wes.

This is all to say that they should give Jonathan Craven a shot at writing and/or directing a Scream film, preferably Scream 8. With the next films likely focusing on Sidney’s daughter Tatum, it seems rather apropos to have the son of the original films’ creator involved.

Perhaps hopefully acuity with horror films is in the blood, kind of like with David Cronenberg’s son Brandon Cronenberg.

Why Didn’t They Recast Elaine’s Dad?

We all know that Jerry’s dad Morty was portrayed by a different actor in his first appearance. The same goes for George’s father Frank. (Though they edited Jerry Stiller into that episode later on.)

Elaine’s father Alton Benes only appears in the Season 2 episode “The Jacket” portrayed by Lawrence Tierney. The story goes that Tierney’s behavior on set was so bizarre that they decided never to have him back on. As such, they never made another episode featuring Elaine’s dad.

The question I’ve always had is given they had no problem recasting Morty and Frank, why didn’t they just recast Alton?

So are the Hutt Twins Ziro the Hutt’s kids?

The Book of Boba Fett introduced us to the Hutt Twins, where they are described as Jabba the Hutt’s cousins.

The Clone Wars introduced us to Ziro the Hutt, who is described as Jabba the Hutt’s uncle.

Given that, it’s natural to deduce that the Twins are Ziro’s children.

One of them has a tattoo below their lower lip and Ziro’s covered in tattoos. The other has a purplish sheen and Ziro is purple.

We’ll be seeing the Twins again in The Mandalorian and Grogu coming out soon. The film appears to be harkening back to The Clone Wars with appearances by Rotta the Hutt and Embo. So it wouldn’t surprise me at all if in said film they reveal that Ziro was their father.

I posted my WIP for a Beta Exchange in the Fanfiction Discord. Soon afterwards I go a message from someone offering to do a Beta Exchange with their story. Their story was exactly up my alley of interest. I very much enjoyed it. It took me about a week to get back to them with all the stuff I thought was great about their story with a few critiques. They responded very appreciative, and said they'd get back to me about my story soon.

That was two weeks ago. I haven't heard anything back yet. I'm concerned that it'll seem too pushy if I message them back to see where they're at with my story or if they had an idea when they could get back to me.

Also, another person recently messaged me offering a Beta Exchange with a story that sounds interesting. Is it acceptable to have two Beta-ing your story at the same time?
