Intermittent oil sensor warning

I have a 2017 Golf (automatic transmission). For a few months I’ve been getting an intermittent oil sensor warning. It lasts for a second or 2 before disappearing. Usually on longer highway drives.

When it started I went and got my oil changed at the shop (ahead of schedule). The mechanic said the oil and coolant levels were good, and so thought it was a faulty wire causing the sensor to trip. I opted to live with the occasional alert because it wasn’t happening that often. I check my oil every time the alert comes on just to make sure I’m not in trouble.

Well, it’s been 35 degrees lately in southern Ontario, and while doing some highway driving yesterday the alert was coming on every 5 minutes. Again, only for a second or 2 before disappearing. When I got home I checked the oil level and colour, which was fine.

I had the thought to check the oil temperature, and this was going on (video).

This morning the outside temperature was 28 degrees when I started my car for the first time. The oil temperature immediately read 52 degrees. I assume that reading was false. I drove a couple blocks to work and by the time I got there the oil temperature was 135. I have a hard time imagining the oil got so hot so quickly.

Is it safe to say the oil sensor is just bad, reading temperatures 20 degrees high than actual? Seems like a relatively easy thing to fix, but not sure if I’m missing anything more serious.
