Anyone else do unhinged things with AI

I am back after successfully getting claude opus 5 to not only rewrite a working, booting linux kernel in fortran instead of C ( which was an absolute pain in the ass because of the lack of low level memory management) but i also just finished rewriting a dead programming language developed by SUN Microsystems in the mid 2000's for a DARPA contract for supercomputers called Fortress.

The language being made by SUN (if any of yall know who that is) of course used JAVA as its compiler because SUN was weird like that, but it suffered hard from ALOT of issues. I was able to baby Claude through rewriting it in RUST + LLVM and the code actually compiles and runs flawlessly. I didnt think this would actually happen considering it took me a week to find enough documentation for claude to even understand the syntax of the language that hasnt been written in probably 15 years.

Time to get back to work completing my kernel rewrite in fortran, currently almost done with PCIe, USB, AHCI and other drivers, then its onto real graphics drivers, probably 8 bit to start out and then hopefully 16 or 24bit later on.

Just wanted to share my unhinged projects

I think I have gone off the deep end

A few months ago I hated AI cause it was just kinda dumb, but after using claude and gpt i realized that because im not a dev who cares its for fun anyways. First thing I made was a terminal script that does real time Computational fluid dynamics using Dolfinx/FEniCs and it actually runs really well. I keep coming up with dumb ideas laying in bed and then I brainstormed the ultimate dumb idea

Rewriting the Linux Kernel in Fortran

Yes you did indeed read that write, I have already forked the kernel from Linux Torvald's github and am currently working on creating the lowest level parts of the kernel right now. Creating an assembly layer so that fortran can actually talk to hardware, as its not a low level language like C is, its more of a medium level if that makes sense. It struggles to do things when given direct access to memory so thats gonna be a fun thing to do. I cant wait to have to write my own USB drivers...

Well just wanted to share this with yall, and was curious on if any of yall have come up with similar insanely dumb but funny ideas and actually acted out on them or attempted to

BGP questions

Hello Ziply guys,

I am wanting to run BGP for 2 different ASNs that I have and after seeing some posts a few years ago about BGP i wanted to ask again cause asking customer support didnt work out the best last time. I already own a /24 and 1 /40 for one ASN and a /40 for the other and am curious if i could run it? I saw someone say something about full internet routes vs default route and wanted to ask about that as well, I have the equipment to run full routes easily (Cisco ASR1006x) so i was just curious. Also im not sure how this would work with a single ISP but if multihoming was possible via say 2 10Gb connections coming from different edge locations or something along those lines.

Thank yall :)

Newest addition to the homelab setup

Just received my newest addition to the homelab, the glorious Cisco ASR1006x and i cant lie im already in love with it. It feels almost brand new even though it was made in 2016, probably because it was kept in a nice clean datacenter.

This will be my new core router for my homelab once i get some newer line cards. Currently it has a single line card with 6 XFP ports (yes XFP) and thats about it. It will be running as my edge router via eBGP to the real world from 3 seperate ISPs, it will be acting as my core router via again eBGP and OSPF (I will be running eBGP using the private ASN range). It will also be running my GPON network mainly as the BNG for my FS.com OLT3000-1G's which then run into my 96 stranded OSP to my outbuildings and 3 homes on my property. Lastly im gonna mess around with some P2P links over the same 96 stranded OSP with either 1G or 10G bidi transceivers but those are insanely expensive.

As of now im just getting it configured and the IOS-XE version flashed to it, and i cant lie it is loud but it wont be in my house so I couldn't care less. Also before yall leave comments about power, its 5¢/kwh for my property so i really dont care for power draw, especially because half of my datahall/datacenter runs on solar and im planning on getting more soon.

Hope yall enjoy, cant wait to post more pictures as i get it racked up and running :)

New ak build

Wanted to post my AK build that i have been working on and have almost finished. This is my first AK after owning a few AR's and i gotta say, I love this thing.

Its an SLR-104 from bulgaria w/ a midwest stock (couldnt find a damn PT-3), an exps3-0, a zenitco B-33 dust cover, zenitco B-30/B-31 hanguard, a zenitco perst 4 gen 3, surefire scout light pro, zenitco PK-0, and a JTAC muzzle break, as well as tula Plum Bakelite magazine.

I am currently in the process of shortening the barrel, as well as changing muzzle device so i can use suppressors with it. I found a steal on tacswap for 6 tula plum mags that were $50 total and they are definitely used but they run like a dream.

Yall really making me want to build about 20 more AK's
