Tilde's Bookshop Decor

I just unlocked the bookshop and it said something about decorating and how it can't be in both places? But can I use presets with the bookshop so that I can always put back what I want and it kind of *can* be in both places? I like my little tiny bookshop trailer so I don't want to lose what I have going on there.

TikTok Violation Moderation

I am relatively new to TT and I had a post that was removed for violating community standards. It’s a simple post with three flash fiction stories in it that offer no gratuitous violence or anything. One is about a zombie, one a vampire, and one a werewolf.

I appealed this but the appeal review was immediately that it would not be restored. I tried reposting with less keywords but the same result.

Is there a way I can talk to someone to understand what about this triggered a violation?

Horror Submissions: where to look?

I am looking to increase my awareness of submission opportunities. I am following a couple publishers/anthologies but i am curious about any magazines that run specifically horror that I should add into my watch rotation. Can you make recommendations? (PS. I will also use this for reading.)

Big Blue LLC

As I understand it, a lot of departments in UK were outsourced or rebadged under a new LLC. I was curious how this move impacted benefits or public service as maybe it’s not directly for the university anymore.

Does anyone have experience?

Anyone freshly hired that may not have been grandfathered into something?

Ia it still worth it?

Looking for a specific vibe - does it exist?

Is there a place in or even near Lexington that has a vibe like this? I’m looking for a place that would be a good dark aesthetic backdrop/atmosphere. Picture is just for inspiration and found on google.

The formula for a good pitch?

I am prepping to pitch my book for the first time. What are the points that you consider to be the most important part in building the pitch. I've heard conversation about when people say "What's your book about?" they want the theme. I've heard pitch is plot.

If you have had a successful pitch, how did you build it? Is there a "golden" formula? Is there more than "Character does THIS and RESULT"?

Swooning for the Villian?

After finishing Lights Out and loving the Faceless Man, I’m curious as to whether or not good DR requires that we want to be taken, swooned, etc by falling for the villain or if it is enough that the book doesn’t head hop into the his mind and it exists as a spicy suspense/thriller. At this point, I just hope the question makes sense.

Attending a Writing Convention - Tips?

I am going to be going to a writing convention in July for the first time. For those that have been to such events (this one is three days) what are some things that I should consider? I am a comic con goer so the basic stay hydrated and such is at the top of my list.

Also, for authors who use a pen name, do you network under your nom de plume or your government name? Just curious what most people do in those instances.

I’m so excited (and a bit nervous) as I’m well into the second draft of first book and I think I will take a lot away from this.

External conflict vs. Plot - Keeping the reader engaged?

The title of the post maybe not be the most accurate. I have a finished manuscript and I am working on the second draft right now. For the first time (ever) I did a reading of the first chapter to my writing group for feedback. I have taken a lot of it into consideration about expanding the setting, I got a bit of the white room syndrome going on, some run ons, etc. That’s good, all things I needed to hear.

But one of the pieces of feedback talked about conflict.

What is the conflict? We should have a sense of it early.

I feel like the internal conflict the FMC is facing is evident immediately.

The external conflict with the antagonist (and love interest) is more subtle. The conflict with him is basically the plot. An endearing man who has a super shady secret. The story is about trusting your gut and she already saw something that made her feel a certain way that she brushes off… is that a nugget of conflict?

What should we be seeing and how early?

I’ve been stuck on this for a week wondering if I somehow scrap the whole chapter.
