Need advice, if I pay off my credit cards will it affect my credit score if I cancel them or should I keep them open with a zero balance? Problem is I’m not sure I will not run them up again?

To give context we recently moved and the property has turned out to be a money pit! All renovations have been done utilising credit cards! I am able to clear them but I need to know what to do once they are clear.
My worry is there always seems to be a new project but I can’t keep using credit cards and my outgoings are already tight.

Clearing my credit cards is it a good idea to cancel them or will it help my credit score to keep them at a 0 balance

I recently moved and the property we moved to has proven to be a money pit. To get the house up to scratch I have had to spend around £40,000 on credit cards. I will be clearing them and if I’m honest to myself I would struggle to maintain a zero balance as it always feels like “something is needed” and I will end up spending on them again. From a financial and credit file perspective what is my best course of action?
