proud of my kiddo

we have two neuro spicy children - both medicated. our youngest (5) has been the bigger challenge lately. He is on concerts but still had extreme emotional outbursts. we made the hard call to start ssris because his behavior was impeding his ability to socialize with peers and also was seriously impact the family because of hitting and yelling.

well ... he has been great. we have notlost his personality - he is still a force and sweet (and sometimes a pain just like a five year old should he) but he seems happier. hopefully this continues.

hang in there everyone

prozac + stimulant

Anyone tried that for 6 year old kiddo with ADHD that often manifests in extreme outbursts, at times? Or, is Guanfacine a more traditional route. The stim works great for the hyperactivity but does nothing for her inner volcano.

insight on next step?

I know there is no right answer but I always learn from this community. son is five years old and on concerta (18mg) with small amount of clonodine to help with sleep. Hyperactivity is better but man is he angry, especially when he is coming down in the afternoon but also when he is tired or something else is up. If it isn't his way, the entire house is going to shake. i've been doing research and there seems to be three options: 1. increase dose, 2. add prozac or add 3. guanfacine. Peds Psychiatrist seems very sure about upping dose but I am concerned that it will make the afternoons even worse.

anyone been down this rose?

question about Guanfacine

trying to educate myself. I see that some people give their child guanfacine at night because it can cause drowsiness. how long is it effective throughout the day? or is it similar to a SSRI that builds up?

advice on anxiety

just looking for perspectives and not medical advice.

six year old is on extended release Ritalin and has always been anxious. while the Ritalin greatly reduced impulsivity, it has had no impact on the anxiety, we are seeing more and more that his anxiety is starting to hold him back - he wants to stay home versus going to a birthday party or he gets anxious about not being the best in class. in short, it isn't debilitating but it is a thing.

does OT or therapy work or should we think about medication?
