I've been pulling my hair since elementary school, and I'm now 25. As you can imagine, going to the salon for a haircut has always been one of my biggest anxieties.

Earlier today, I finally decided to get my yearly haircut. As usual, they noticed all the short hairs. The stylist gently asked, "Nagbubunot po ba kayo, Ma'am?"

I couldn't bring myself to say yes. I felt so embarrassed, and I was scared of what questions or comments might come next. Instead, I made up an excuse and said I had cut those hairs because they got tangled.

The stylist seemed genuinely kind and wasn't being judgmental at all, but I still froze.

To my fellow trichsters, do you usually disclose that you have trichotillomania when you're at the salon? If not, what do you usually say when a stylist asks about the uneven hair or notices the short patches?

I'd love to hear how you handle these situations because I still find them incredibly difficult.
