7 days since Posterior THR on Left Hip

Hello, hope everyone's okay

I had my THR on 11th August and stayed an extra night due to pain management. I've been home since Thursday afternoon after a 4 hours drive from the Hospital in Edinburgh back to Middlesbrough. That was so uncomfortable and wouldn't recommend that for anyone, the morphine wasn't even touching the pain!

I was given medications for pain, just 5 days of paracetamol and 5 days of liquid morphine, 35 days worth of blood thinners, and laxatives. I thought I would have been given stronger pain med when being sent home, the only thing that worked in the hospital and got rid of the pain was Oxycodone.

I've been doing my exercises (Twice Daily)which are:

  • Laying on bed: Active hip/knee flexion
  • Laying on bed: Abductions
  • Laying on bed: Knee Extensions
  • Standing - Hip Flexion - Knee Lift
  • Standing - Hip Abduction
  • Standing - Hip Extension

==============================================================

The last 24 hours

Yesterday I had a lot of aching pain in my left knee, ankle and side of thigh. It comes and goes. But nothing really gets rid of it. Its constant aching which pulsates sometimes very painful and other times not that bad. Over night I have been getting bad night sweats, waking up and my pillow and bedding it absolutely soaking. When standing at the toilet, my left knee starts aching and that continues when I get back to bed for 10-20 mins before it finally stops.

I'm still walking with two crutches, walking with one I'm unbalanced and it hurts the leg, I am unable to walk with no crutches, its just too painful I just don't have the strength in the leg to move it. I guess with the posterior approach they cut through more muscles, which then need repairing.

My incision areas are still very sore to touch and to sit on. So I'm sitting at an angle to keep the weight off the operated area. I am definitely stronger now than what I was on Thursday, I would take me 5 mins to get out of bed, its now 20 seconds. So there are improvements.

I have a Physio phone call tomorrow, then face to face next week, hopefully get more exercises to do.

I have just a few questions.

  1. When did you stop using crutches/walkers?
  2. Have you had any knee pain since your hip operation?
  3. When did you return to work?

Thanks and apologies for the long post, I have plenty of time on my hands!! :)

Posterior Left Total hip replacement ✔️

Hello, I had my posterior left THR yesterday, opted for epidural and a small amount of general anesthetic. Op felt like it was over very quickly which was fantastic. I'm in a lot of pain now, Morphene isn't hitting it but the Oxycoden is. I'm leaving hospital tomorrow but they are only giving me Morphene so hopefully the pain subsides day by day.

I had osteoarthritis in my hip and cam morphology. I injured my self when I was running but I believe the main culprit is serving on ships for the past 26 years, being knocked from bulkhead to bulkhead. on first diagnosis they said hip impingement so I was sent to physio this was in April 2024, physio wasn't working so ended up getting cortisol injection. I felt like a new man for at least 4 months then the pain came back. the pain was getting that worse that I was removed from the ship I was on into a shore draft do to constant throbbing pain caused by trying to stabilise myself in rough sea conditions.

When I had the injection I went on an intense 2 week physio course which was enjoyable, basically it was to see how I could perform on bikes, doing circuits and other stuff.

in Feb this year I seen my surgeon who gave me options of either injection or THR. I went for the injection as the last one worked. Also this was at a private hospital so I couldn't just say THR as they're mega expensive.

The 2nd injection didn't really work, it just slightly numbed the throbbing pain in my knee and groin. so I went back to my doctor and said I need a new hip, it's the only way to fix this issue.

Ihope that wasn't too boring and that it made sense, in still pretty high on drugs.

Orange led flashing now and again

I noticed today and yesterday now and again my volume 1 HDD led flashing white then orange for a few seconds then goes back to white again. the drives 6 months old, same as the NAS (DXP4800 Plus)

The SMART info says it's healthy.

Has anyone else had this happen?

The drive seems absolutely fine, currently watching Jellyfin with it now.

Got my op on 11th August

Had was diagnosed with FIA / Cam Morphology and osteoarthritis 2 years ago, i've had 2 steroid injections, the first worked and the last one in February 2026 didn't. I was dealing with sharp pains in my groin, front of thigh, side of hip, lower back when walking. Also throbbing pain when sitting down and a bit in bed.

I've been resting for a few weeks not and the throbbing has stopped, and the aching is not ass bad. I know it needs operating on but my brains saying its getting better. The surgeon i seen told me the only way to fix this is THR. I'm up for it, but i have doubts in my head. I'm downgraded from my work and have been for over a year so unable to go to sea and that flares it up big time with the rocking of the ships.

I don't have good movement on the leg and i'm stiff after sitting for a while I also struggle to put my shoes on due to poor flexibility of the joint, so i definitely need it , its just my brain putting thoughts into my head.

I'm going to get numbed via the spine (for got what its called, epidural maybe) and sedated. Then hopefully home in a couple of days. Shame the hospital is 3 1/2 hour drive from my home!

Has anyone else had doubts about their operation a few weeks beforehand?

I've added an image of my hip, this was taking during the first steroid injections in Nov 2024.

Repeat "New Species" every 7 days

Are my settings correct?

If I get a new species visit my garden I get an alert on my phone via ntfy and the WebUI, then the gold start stays on the bird for 7 days until its not considered new. But after the 7 days are up i'm getting new notifications of new species, but they're the same birds that appeared last week.

I thought they would not re-appear as new birds as they are not considered new anymore after 7 days. Knowing me I have some setting not quite right! If I put the new species to 1 day considered new then I start to get the seasonal and yearly tracking (no notifications, just the little icons).

Hopefully the above made sense about my issue!

Thanks

Finally getting THR after 2 years of Physio

I injured myself whilst sprinting in April 2024, thought it was just a groin strain but the pain never went. Went to rehab, they thought it was Hip Impingement, spent many months doing physio. It wasn't working, so had a cortisone injection in Nov 2024, I felt like a new man for 4-5 months got upgraded at work, I was told then it was cam morphology and osteoarthritis. The pain came back, I was downgraded and went back to physio again, had another cortisone injection in Feb this year which didn't' really work. I was referred to the NHS 3 months ago for a THR and didn't hear anything, total silence.

My work has not funded me to go private today. So I'm just waiting on a phone call from Spire in Edinburgh to get a date for consultation and operation, hopefully within the month.

I've been reading peoples stories after total hip replacements and its a mixed bag with some recovering quickly and others not so. I'm hoping this sorts me out once I'm recovered. I don't think I'll be running again though, might have to take up Cycling and spinning. I will miss running though. But i'd rather be pain free.
