School Transportation?

Hi, hoping I can get some general info about this. I'm a single working mom in SLO County, my daughter is starting middle school in the Lucia Mar school district next week. I filled out a bus pass application over the Summer and got a reply that she doesn't qualify for a free bus pass, we are in the "paid" category, and on top of that there's a lottery to determine if kids in the paid category will even get a bus seat.

I was told the lottery would take place the first week of August, and I'd find out then if she'd got a bus pass. I hadn't heard anything yet this week and school starts next Thursday, so I called their transportation dept. today and was told they haven't done the lottery yet, and it was likely it wouldn't be held before school starts.

Is this a thing here? It's the first I've ever heard of kids not being able to take the bus to school. I work 7:30am-5pm M-F and can't cut into my work hours to drop her off and pick her up. I'm panicking a bit at the thought of having no affordable way to safely get my daughter to school, and thinking I can't be the only one affected by this? Any advice appreciated.

Why am I less generous the older I get?

I used to be much more empathetic and want to help out when I could, but I don't anymore.

Reputable mechanic for Honda, voltage issue?

I have a 2013 Honda Accord with 200,000 miles on it. The car's had what I think is an intermittent electrical or charging problem, rough starting and throwing up random codes that disappear, new battery hasn't made a difference. I've taken it to a few shops recently and no one can seem to identify what's causing it. I was thinking of trying Mastertech, but there were some pretty bad reviews posted for them recently. Any recommendations welcome.
