Kost or Apartment in near surabaya

Hello y'all! I am an international incoming student to Universitas Airlangga this year. I was interested in finding any kost or apartments available near campus B, especially that could be about 10-15 mins walking. If you know about any accomodation available or any place I could do my research, please let me know. Thank y'all in advance!

I am a Honduras who have 2 scholarship opportunities abroad, Russia or Indonesia, which one should I choose?

Hello friends! I am Jacky from Honduras, and I am an 18-year-old student who wants to study Psychology abroad. Right now, I have two opportunities on the table, and I would like you guys to give me your opinion and share your experiences. Please, I want neutral and objective opinions.

It is necessary to clarify that I do not want to make my life in either of these countries. My objective is to do my bachelor's degree in a good place and at a good university that could give me the opportunity to study abroad for my master's degree and have a good specialization in Clinical Psychology and Neuroscience, in a country that is reliable for working as a psychologist (such as Europe, North America, or a really big and developed country in Asia).

With that being said, my first option is:

  1. Universitas Airlangga in Indonesia with the KNB Scholarship

I won this scholarship on June 19th, so I have already started my visa process. The university is helping me with it, and everything is covered by the scholarship.

The KNB Scholarship is fully funded and covers my tuition, a living allowance, health insurance, a plane ticket, and a language course.

Some positive things about this scholarship are that it is fully funded, the language is relatively easy for Hispanics to learn, the university is good, and the Psychology program is accredited in Asia and Europe. It also gives students opportunities to volunteer with the community, which I think is essential in a Psychology curriculum.

I will do my bachelor's degree in Indonesian since this is a requirement of the scholarship.

Indonesia is also a place that is really respectful of other religions, and the climate is more adaptable for me since it is somewhat similar to my home country.

  1. Saint Petersburg State University in Russia

I won this scholarship yesterday, so I haven't prepared anything yet.

The scholarship covers tuition and gives a small stipend; however, it is definitely not enough, so I will need to pay for the visa process, plane tickets, health insurance, and additional living expenses.

The scholarship also covers the language course because the bachelor's degree will be taught in Russian.

Now, I believe it is obvious that the most comfortable option is Indonesia because of all the facilities and expenses that the scholarship covers for me. However, Saint Petersburg State University has a lot of prestige, history, and impact, as well as many good components of Psychology studied there, with a great focus on Clinical Psychology, Neuroscience, and research.

However, the Russian language is way harder to learn than Indonesian. I am a bit scared that this could affect my academics at university, especially because I would also be more concerned about the economic factor and the possible limitations that Russian diplomas may have due to the war. It is not impossible to validate my degree abroad, but it requires more processes because of the war.

Another thing that concerns me is that in Russia, I would not receive the same support from the university or the scholarship when it comes to the visa process. If I need guidance or professional help with the process, I would most likely have to pay an advisor to help me, which would be another additional expense.

With that being said, do you all believe it is worth sacrificing the economic and probably mental health factors in Russia to study at the famous Saint Petersburg State University?

Or do you think Indonesia, at Universitas Airlangga, is the best option for me considering all factors?

foreign woman moving to surabaya

Hi everyone!

I'm an 18-year-old white Christian woman from Honduras, and I'll be moving to Surabaya, Indonesia in a few weeks to study. I'm really excited, but since this will be my first time living in Indonesia, I have a few questions about daily life there.

What are the people and the overall lifestyle like in Surabaya? Is religion an important part of everyday life? As a Christian, will that be an issue, or are people generally accepting of different religions?

I'm also wondering about clothing. Do I need to change the way I dress to fit in, or is modest Western-style clothing acceptable?

How is public transportation in Surabaya? Is it reliable and safe for students?

I know that Indonesia can suffer a lot from natural disasters due to geographical location, does surabaya is prepared for this scenarios?

Finally, as a foreign woman, should I be concerned about harassment or discrimination? (especially one who would physically stand out, as I am tall, white, curly and redhead) How are women generally treated, and is Surabaya considered a safe city for international female students?

I'd really appreciate hearing from locals, international students, or anyone who has lived in Surabaya. Thanks in advance!

Baku State University - Psychology

Hi! I am from Honduras and I am interested in studying in azerbaijan. I applied to the heydar aliyev scholarship, I applied to psychology in BSU and Khazar university, both in english. With khazar I do not have problems since I have enough information in internet to do research. However I start to worry about BSU since I do not find a lot of information about the program. In fact, I read that they just give the bachelor in Russian and Azeri. However the scholarship offers the psychology program in english at BSU.

Have anyone knows more about the Psychology department at BSU? Where could I find more information?
