finally said screw it and ordered myself my dream kb

been wanting a model m since i was literally a single digit age child in the 00s, first getting into retro computers and mechanical keyboards,

spent months window shopping on various keyboards, but found theres just too many silly gimmick options of switches, with just varying levels of questionable quality and reliability now. and im an old man in my mid-late 20s that was really into kbs as a teen, but fell out of and got back into it, so idk and idc abt any of this silly "thocky" "creamy" clone switch nonsense lmfao

when i found out that cherrys have basically just as bad quality control and manufacturing as everyone else now (except still charge cherry prices) when i was looking to get another plain jane blue or green board, i just decided to say screw it and get the boomer old man buckling spring board of my dreams

now if only i hadnt heard horror stories on their shipping lmfao, but its a good exercise in patience, and whats another few weeks after over a literal decade right?

and i guess i shouldnt say DREAM keyboard, but yk, i simply couldnt justify a model f repro, and i think this one might already push my wife's patience lmfao

just a friendly reminder to check your file system for corruption with some of these bug posts

it seems alot of people in this sub are posting about alot of "weird bugs", strange slowdowns, apps not opening, strange crashes, performance problems, ones that get worse day by day,

while alot of these ARE normal beta performance issues and nothing to be concerned about, if you find ur machine progressively developing alot of abnormal behaviors, over the course of several days if not even a couple weeks, there is a very non zero chance youre actually experiencing early apfs data corruption.

it starts very mild and develops progressively, and really hides itself well as "just slowdowns and the occasional crash" and is easy to ignore off as a beta, until much of ur data is already well destroyed

i wont bother rehashing obviously, but theres alot of good writeups in this sub, by people MUCH smarter and more eloquent than me, on where to begin with actually testing for the corruption, and then saving as much data off ur drive as possible (as regular time machine backups dont work), just search for them

i think this is more common problem than apple really wants to admit at the moment, as i think alot of people just dont diagnose it as the underlying cause of their problems, they think its just a "buggy slow beta", and just wipe their systems back to tahoe and move on with their day, hopefully this gets fixed soon.

Anyone else an iOS boomer, with a long time away, that just cant understand the hate?

im beginning to suspect that one of the reasons i love liquid glass so much, is the fact that the last version of ios i actually used extensively beforehand was 4-6 lol.

when the flat redesign happened, i just didnt like it, i switched from ios first, then mac later, i was also young and broke at the time, which helped those decisions ill be honest lol

but the past yearish ive finally been blessed enough to hop back on the apple train, macbook, iphone, nothing fancy just some sturdy last year-base models purchased on sale lol,

and as someone that basically missed everything between ios6 to 26, and hasnt played w a mac much since iirc yosemite? the new style is just gorgeous. it actually looks somewhat like the apple i grew up drooling over again. if anything ive been annoyed that my 27 beta tones some of the things i absolutely ADORED about 26 way down, even if the ability to max out the transparency on the slider makes it overall worth

(and my wife who has basically the exact same ios gap and nostalgia as me, feels the same when we compare devices lol, she likes her 26 icon gloss and etc more too)

i cant help but see so many similarities to the hate back in that era, and cant help but wonder how pretty liquid glass could have gotten if we stayed down the early 26 beta path, but maybe this is how yall flat design folks felt about us forcing skeumorphic and transparent elements for so long into that transition lol.

another edge feature i love, the custom browser icons are just so peak

i dont see anyone talking about the most recently added set of 4 online anywhere,

the ie7/8 inspired one is just such a nice clean look that honestly suits modern liquid glass so well w its aero vibes lol, but the 9x one is so cute too, n my wifes icon of choice on her phone

i wish the desktop app had this support too, but ik its much harder to implement, itd b nice if ms put clean high res versions of these icons online for us to use ourselves tho

as one of the only people who actually like rounded corners, i feel bad complaining abt this bug lol

ive been dealing with this for weeks now, edge stable, macos, its on every fullscreen corner, it used to be inconsistent at first, sometimes id run edge and itd have proper rounded corners, other times it wouldnt, now it never does

it still has the little outline, but its just not filled in anymore, you can just see the plain ole website underneath, especially with dark modes it just looks like its not there,

anyway if anyone wants to trade this bug for their pretty rounded corners hmu ig lmfao, has anyone else seen this? or have any idea on how to "fix"?
