Good News: 65” TCL Q6C is semi glossy with excellent reflection handling and picture quality. Photos from actual TV in the India Market.

I had posted before about the Q6C vs C6K and wondered if the two TVs are different in any way. Consider this as my update because I needed to upload photos to show the reflection handling effect. I am of course open for discussions.

I feel like an idiot complaining about the super glossy mirror like screen of my 65 inch TCL Q6C TV purchased from Amazon India website. It turns out that I had not removed the plastic film on the screen. Once I removed it, the actual display screen is semi glossy. You can still see reflections, but they are not like a mirror, more like a faded grainy 25% to 30% reflection. I can say I am very happy now.

What you see in the photos is not intended to show picture quality; it is intended to show the reflection handling of the TV in Mumbai India at 12:30 pm in the afternoon with a strongly lit window to the right side causing the seating area to be very brightly lit up. Even though you see some reflections, they are actually greatly minimized thanks to the semi-glossy nature of the sophisticated HVA screen of the TCL Q6C TV. I must congratulate TCL for being so considerate and diligent in their design for a “premium” tv that is 3 levels down from the top of the line 9 series models. In other posts TCL_Official_UK has confirmed that the 85 inch C6K / Q6C and 95 inch C6K / Q6C have a matte finish which should look even more sharper in a bright room. Larger TVs are harder to tilt and dodge ceiling reflections so a matte finish is crucial for a good experience. I am speculating that the newest L series, as a successor to the K series, must be even more well thought out.

PS: I intentionally left the photos a bit pixelated to protect privacy, but the photos should give you some sense of how good the reflection handing is, and the description is accurate.

The OS is still Android 12 (I believe some newer or premium TVs run the more “efficient” Android OS 14 or 15). At least one user has reported TCL providing them with a software link that can be installed / upgraded via a USB drive, but it is not available as an OTA update. I tried calling TCL support but no luck for me. If someone gets in touch with TCL support, please repeat to them to make this an OTA update, so it can benefit everyone.

Update based on official response from TCL:

Q6C (Amazon and online) and C6K (retail stores) are the exact same TV. Sizes 55”, 65”, 75” use semi gloss finish HVA panels and sizes 85” and 93” use matte finish HVA panels.

The C6KS is a “reduced” feature model to make the TV more affordable by removing 1 HDMI port, reducing the number of illuminated “zones”, reducing the audio output by a small fraction, and reducing the RAM to 2GB (vs 3GB) which could affect future performance of the TV as the software gets more bloated over time.

TCL 65” C6K vs 65” Q6C in India

The TCL 65C6K vs 65Q6C are both sold in India with exactly the same specs. On the TCL India website, both are listed as VA panels. Q6C is sold by online websites and C6K is sold in retail stores. But is there any difference between the two? Is the viewing angle better in one vs the other? Is there an antiglare coating or antireflective coating to reduce reflections? Hopefully someone with first-hand physical experience can verify information for the rest of us (based on actual knowledge, not online reading).

Mid June - Playa Del Carmen

Looking for pointers from recent travelers… regarding logistics, security and safety and the rising heat levels in June.

Planning a trip to Cancun mid-June for a much needed break - expecting in 4 months and it has been a rough year leading up to this, including first trimester! (Some are perhaps offended that it is called a babymoon, but it is a common phrase, I had not understood until now how badly couples need to take this kind of a break before life changes drastically). Any pointers or pearls of wisdom on logistics in Cancun or Playa Del Carmen? Our first 3 night are locked at the Paradisus Playa Del Carmen (already booked non refundable) but then we are open for 3 more nights. My wife loves water (cenote or ocean both are fine) and sun.

We did visit Holbox once on a previous trip years ago and really really liked it. We could repeat Holbox, but open to better suggestions. With Holbox I am worried that the shuttle bus from the Holbox Ferry to the airport might make things tricky for a morning flight). Should we skip Holbox and do something different? Do people only do day trips to Isla Mujeres or is it worth getting a hotel there? I hear good things about Cozumel as well. Just can’t decide what would be better. Would love to keep movement to a minimum of course, and we will try to enjoy things early in the morning or later at night to avoid too much sun exposure.

Also I hear mixed opinions on renting a car. Hertz at the CUN airport has cars for $10 a day. We would be landing at 8:30 pm in CUN and drive to the first hotel in PDC. Is it worth doing the rental car? Or does it truly get too stressful with cops, extortion rackets, etc? Is such stuff really happening currently?

Question on Playa Del Carmen and Holbox - Current Conditions

Looking for pointers from recent travelers… regarding logistics, security and safety.

Planning a trip from ATL to Cancun from June 10 to 16 for a Baby-Moon (expecting in 4 months!). Any pointers or pearls of wisdom on logistics in Cancun or Playa Del Carmen? Our first 3 night are locked at the Paradisus Playa Del Carmen (already booked non refundable) but then we are open for 3 more nights.

We did visit Holbox once on a previous trip years ago and really really liked it. We could repeat Holbox, but open to better suggestions. My wife loves the water and sun. With Holbox I am worried that the shuttle bus from the Holbox Ferry to the airport might make things tricky for a morning flight (we could just spend one night near the Cancun airport for a 10 am flight to ATL next day). Should we skip Holbox and do something different?

Need some advice for a good sound set up.

I am trying to setup a living room TV nook which is near the balcony and due to a quirky layout, I only have about 11 ft x 9 ft of “box” space which then opens out into a slightly larger room encompassing an entry area and an open dining room. I have the 65” TCL 65 C6K TV with the built in 40W sound but I think it will not be very good for music listening.

I have intentionally stayed away from soundbars because they just don’t give the stereo separation and the tiny speakers just don’t have the hefty response that full bookshelf speakers do. So it feels like you don’t really get musical enjoyment even if you splurge on a Rs. 50,000 soundbar. I really like the sound of the Klipsh Self Powered and the Audio Engine 5 self-powered bookshelf speakers but those are way way outside my price range.

My main goal is to get my tv hooked up to a great sound setup for music with HDMI ARC (so volume can be controlled with TV remote) and FM for dad to enjoy his mornings.

Would the Obage Ultra 10 or the Ultra Ultimate satisfy someone that is used to listening to classy music (reference RD Burman, Lata, Rafi, ABBA, Queen, Michael Jackson) on a 240W Sony Hi Fi stereo system? is there a huge gap in sound quality? Do you think the Obage 5.1 system is also just as good?

Please guide me on what is the best option on the Indian market right now. I am open to suggestions for other brands or models as well. Thank you!

This is what I have been able to understand In TCL TVs so far: The C6K is the default. The Q6C is only available through exclusive online retailers like Amazon and it adds a “Common Interface Card” slot which can be used by some cable companies to give you encrypted cable channels instead of a set top box (this is a minor feature but it could be valuable if your cable company uses this technology). The C6KS is a “reduced” feature model to make the TV more affordable by removing 1 HDMI port, reducing the number of “zones” in the miniLED brightness, reducing the audio output by a small fraction, and maybe reducing the RAM as well which could affect future performance of the TV as the software gets more bloated over time. (I have added photos I could capture from online retail websites in India)

Does anyone have more insights to share?
