Target Student Discount

I work at a Target and have had a bunch of IU students come through buying stuff for dorms and apartments. There’s a 20% off deal that you can use! It’s a little bit tricky because it requires you to submit a document to verify your student status, and the Crimson Cards don’t have expiration dates on them, so target doesn’t accept them. Here’s what works:

Open the IU mobile app or IU.edu, and go to IGPS to see your full schedule. The schedule that’s just on the IU app won’t work because it doesn’t have all the information they need on it. This is maybe common sense for returning students, but freshmen probably aren’t super familiar with this program because their schedules are pretty much built for them at NSO. That’s who this post is geared toward.

Download the page as a pdf (act like you’re going to print it, and the option to save as a pdf should appear).

Download the Target app or go to the target website and sign up for Target Circle if you haven’t already. You can cancel it after, but you do have to sign up to get the discount. It’s free.

Go to the settings page under the ‘my Target’ tab and scroll down until you see the ‘student’ button under discount verification. Click on it and begin filling out what it prompts you to. You’ll upload the document you just downloaded when you get to the file upload stage.

It will process the document(and hopefully approve it), and email you when it’s done. It says up to 20 minutes, but I haven’t seen anybody’s take more than 5.

You then have to apply the discount to your cart. It should be on the ‘explore discounts’ page that should now pop up when you go back to settings and look at discount verification. If it’s not there, it’s probably on the ‘wallet’ tab at the top. You may need to scroll through the coupons on there to see it.

Save your cashier and your parents some grief and do it before you shop. Good luck moving in! See ya’ll on Monday!

Am I cooked

8weeks post op from my PAO. Recovery was going super well, and I was walking with no assistance, no limp, no pain. Of course I have not yet been doing all the things I was doing before surgery, but still getting back out there and being way more active than I had been the past several weeks during recovery. I’ve even been working a little bit(seated) at the checkout at my retail job.

2 days ago, I did the most activity yet since surgery where in total I probably walked a mile, some of it over terrain that was definitely not flat. Now I’m having more pain and feeling less stable. I went back to using both crutches for the time being. I also feel like the numb spot on my upper thigh has expanded?

I’m super paranoid that I gave myself a stress fracture. I don’t have another appointment for ~2 weeks, and I still have some shifts that I picked up between now and then. I’m also moving into a new apartment(luckily my family is helping a lot to carry everything) and starting school soon. I’m just a nervous wreck about this, and I’m mad at myself for rushing my recovery. I was so happy to be feeling so good so quickly! Does anybody have advice?

I was listening to Figure 8 and couldn’t get this idea out of my head. So I made this. Sorry. Happy belated August 6 to those who celebrate

6 Weeks PAO Post Op 🎉

I(19F) just hit 6 weeks post op for my PAO on my left hip 🥳🎉 I’ve had hip pain as long as I can remember, and I was honestly so glad to get diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia in May because that meant I could get treatment. My left hip was a lot more symptomatic than my right but I will likely have to have the other side done eventually. My left hip LCEA and ACEA were both 15 prior to the surgery, and my right is still LCEA 11 + ACEA 13.

ANYWAY my recovery has gone so well, and I’m so grateful they were able to get me in so soon after my diagnosis. I still have some dull pain on days where I’m more active, but overall it’s been such significant improvement from how it was before! I’ve begun weight bearing on the operated leg, and it’s been great! I know I’m probably rushing recovery a bit, but I’ve been walking very short distances without crutches with no notable limp and also no pain on the operated side.

I was really nervous to go back to school(3rd year college student) because my school is very large and doesn’t have amazing accessibility—I’m also living in an apartment off campus which kind of complicates things. But I’m way more confident now, and I think I’ll be able to get by with just one crutch which I’m super happy about!!

One thing that I have noticed since I started weight bearing is how insanely unstable my right side is now in comparison to the left, which is mind blowing because the left is still clearly recovering from a hardcore surgery. I can’t believe I’ve been living my whole life like that! I’ve always loved to run and hike; I did cross country and track in high school, but I really sucked at it. I know that in part it was due to my hip pain, but I’m curious now to see if I improve in these activities not only because I’m experiencing less pain, but because my bones literally work better!

I’d love to hear how everybody else is doing with recoveries!!

Songs that feel like opportunity

I want to feel like I am standing with the whole world sprawled out in front of me. It’s terrifying and exciting. Moving on to something new in a very grand and dramatic way while also mourning the life I once knew.

The one song I’ve found that fits this for me(and what inspired this post) is Smokey by Red House Painters. I love this song and want to make a playlist titled ‘expanses’ but I have no idea what else to put on it. I’d love to hear any recommendations!

Disability Parking?

This is totally too late to be asking this, but I’m on the GenCon event staff this year and super nervous about parking. I have really limited mobility at the moment and parking for the staff(or at least those of us hired by the third party staffing agency) is kind of just at our own discretion with no reimbursement. Last year I just parked about a mile away and walked to avoid dealing super high parking fees, however I can’t really walk more than a few blocks right now. I was kind of just planning on parking a little while away and getting an Uber over to the event center, but I’m curious if there are other options. This is only my second year involved with the convention, so I figured maybe some more experienced GenCon-goers might have tips! Can’t wait!

Nobody gets promoted

At least a third of our team is either planning on quitting within the month or has already put their two weeks in. It’s making me consider some things. I’ve been at my store for about 5 years, and nobody has moved up during that time. Is that normal? We’ve had plenty of vacancies in TL positions, but they just get filled by leads coming from other stores. I definitely have coworkers who are very capable and have expressed interest in moving up and developing but nothing has come of it. I feel like that sounds crazy on paper but is that just the way Target operates?
Also- Is the mass quitting just a thing at our store or a larger phenomenon? The retention for any new hires has been TERRIBLE as well. Prayers for everybody who’s staying on our team and will be stuck training new people who will just quit in a week all the while shouldering the workload of four people. Yikes.

TW Healing Incision- 3W PAO Post Op and there’s holes in my incision?

Have any of you guys had this happen? I have no idea if this is a normal part of the PAO healing process! I spoke with somebody from the surgical team that performed my procedure, and they called in some antibiotics and recommended that I do a wet to dry dressing on the openings. I’m hesitant to go against a medical professional here but while wet to dry dressing is still a pretty common practice, this method of debridement seems to be outdated and generally has a bunch of drawbacks and can end up doing more harm than good. I’m considering using some type of hydrogel, but I’m just conflicted because I know wound dressing can be very situation-specific. Tempted to just throw a bandaid on it and pray… I’m curious if anybody has had a similar issue; and if so, how did you approach it?
