Surgery Consult

MRI showed rectocele, intussusception, cystocele, and vaginal/uterine descent. I also have a full thickness rectal prolapse. My symptoms are mainly incomplete evacuation with frequent bowel movements, pressure and discomfort after bowel movements and mucus/fluid leaking.

My surgeon said she didn’t think a rectoplexy would fix my symptoms. And didn’t propose fixing the intussusception. Not that I presume to know more, but from what I’ve looked into, my symptoms could be related to my diagnosis. Has anyone experienced this? She said she would still do the surgery to fix the prolapse.

I’ve done pelvic floor therapy and adjusted my diet. I am also going to see a urogynecologist surgeon.

Thank you for any input!

72/80 RN

I am an RN, worked part time and transitioned to full time. 72/80 was given to the hospital, but now isn’t being offered to external hires or transfers to new positions. Or so Ive been told. I want to advocate for myself because my case is different. Does anyone have an advice or input? Thanks!

I’m so tired

Im a 28f with rectal prolapse and rectocele. Never had kids, could be connective tissue related. My pelvic floor therapist is writing me a note for work. Im a nurse and they sometimes assign me to sit with patients for 12 hours. I simply can’t. The mornings are so difficult, frequent/urgent bathroom trips and constantly leaking mucus or gas. I go to the bathroom a million times. Sometimes I am in such nagging discomfort. I tried to explain to them I am dealing with medical issues, but I just get push back. Obviously I took fine. My pelvic floor therapist is so lovely and put a lot of time into writing a note, but it was just too much detail. I don’t need them gossiping about me. I’m so tired of dealing with these symptoms, it’s only been a few months of the symptoms being this significant and impacting my life. But, it’s just been a long year. Planning for surgery, I just need to do some more pre-op testing. No clue how long until I can get it done. Sigh. Thanks for listening!

Hyper mobility/connective tissue disorder and Prolapse

28F, recently diagnosed with rectal prolapse pending MRI defecography. I discontinued a medication in January that resulted in significant bowel dysfunction. It lead to abnormal stools and subsequently, straining. I didn’t think it was that significan and I practiced good pelvic floor health - I was seeing a pelvic floor therapist previously and continued seeing them for when this started.

She diagnosed me with a rectocele and a rectal prolapse within the past few months. My pelvic floor therapist was very surprised based on my age. I saw a colorectal specialist (PA) for a consult and she recommended surgery (most likely) since I’ve done 6+ mo of PT. I need to complete a defecography and GI consult/colonoscopy first.

I know it’s all the rage on social media, but I’m curious if I have a connective tissue disorder. I have been torn by physical therapist I have significant hypermobility. I could probably name a few other symptoms. The colorectal PA encouraged me to get a diagnosis first.

Has anyone experienced this? I feel like a diagnosis for connective tissue disorder might be difficult and that besides the hyper mobility any symptoms I have are very vague. And, what is the best way to go about getting a diagnosis? P

My question is, do I need to? I’m a nurse and I hate to be that patient. I feel like any symptoms I have are very vague. Does it change surgical intervention?

Can someone describe their experience with myofascial release?

I just had my first session and I’m just curious how reliable this provider is. I’ve never had one before so I don’t want to judge too quickly!

She did an assessment of my posture and pelvis. And did some maneuvering to align my pelvis. Then it was very light pressure to my tight areas. I do have a high pain tolerance. She was a physical therapist assistant and licensed massage therapist. Myofascial release is the only thing she does.

Thanks!
