Advice for/from artists who make music that doesn’t fit into only one (or any) genre?

I’ve released a few singles and an EP and my album is set to release in just over a week. I’ve done my best at promotion but it’s flopped so far. I’m already hard at work on my second album and I’ve got a much better marketing strategy for that one as it has a far more concrete concept for brand image, but I’m just wondering if anyone has any advice (from experience or not) for artists whose music doesn’t necessarily fit into a specific genre. I know it’s good to be making something unique and new but it also makes it harder for things like hashtags, writing short form hooks and play listing.

Free album release packages

So this year I finished my first album and it’s scheduled for worldwide release on August 28th and I wanted to try something unique as a marketing method. I’ve seen many ads where artists offer to send you free CDs or cassettes but everyone has a streaming service, so I thought a nice way of offering a free way to enhance the experience of the album would be by sending out release packages.

Anyone who signs up will receive an envelope with a lyric sheet, signed art card, and a zine breaking down each song’s writing process. I don’t know enough about genres to label it but it’s a sort of ambient/bedroom pop album that anyone who’s heard it so far tells me sounds like a film soundtrack.

If you live in the UK I can give you the link to sign up, or if you’re really interested and don’t live in the UK, sign up anyway and depending on funds (my budget is obviously very low) I’ll do my best to get the package sent to you.

How different are the ELS and Tamarind tape pressings of EFTM?

I impulsively got a copy of both when they got released and I’ve opened and listened to the ELS pressing which I love, but since I haven’t opened the Tamarind pressing yet I’m just wondering if anyone else has got a copy of both and has a comparison or if the difference is marginal.

Does Jack always perform You And Forever into the crowd on stage left?

I’ve seen a few concert videos now and I’m starting to see a pattern and am just wondering if I’m right or if I’m imagining things? I’m curious as i’ve got tickets to see them in November.

how early do fans get to the venue?

I’ve got tickets to see the band in Bristol in November and I’ve not seen them before so how early do fans typically start queueing?

EFTM first listen first thoughts

(in the UK and it just came out about an hour ago) I love it and I can’t wait to repeat it daily for weeks and learn every word and every hidden detail and easter egg. HOWEVER. They’ve done the one thing that is my all time biggest pet peeve in an album: an abrupt ending. In my opinion an albums end should be as gradual and slow as possible (The Waiter and Who I Want You To Love are PERFECT) and I loved upstairs at els until that ending where it just, stops? The “I Miss Those Days” reference gave me absolute chills. I’m gonna have to hope the ending grows on me but that is my only qualm with the album. Aside from that it’s amazing, the boys don’t miss thank you Jack.

One of my favs from B4 and in my opinion one of their best album closers. I know it partially plays off the closer of the Steel Train album Trampoline (Women I Belong To) but there’s very little lyrical annotation on Genius and I was just wondering if anyone had any readings of the song or has seen Jack talk about it in any interviews.

I’m especially curious about the title. I always assumed it meant Waiter as in waiting staff but I realised yesterday it could also be referring to someone who waits, which may be more in keeping with the lyrical themes of the song.
