GRIIIx: Abandoned church in Melbourne, Australia

I didn't expect to stumble upon an easily accessed old church today, but here I was! I wouldn’t call myself much of an 'urbexer', but I rarely pass up a chance if it’s convenient and safe(ish), haha.

This site, a Uniting Church (Methodist I think?) built in the '60s, was sold for $11 million AUD (US$7.7m) in 2021.

I found this blog post about its history, including one photo of what the smaller original building looked like while it was still in use and being cared for.

Shot in RAW, edited in Lightroom.

Cars & Coffee: Highball Goes Country event (Victoria, Australia)

I usually rely on my Sony for events like this (bigass sensor, longass lens, etc), but for this event I decided to go light and rely on my beloved GRIIIx. Didn't let me down!

To be clear, I shoot raw and do a lot of editing, but I love that the Ricoh delivers such a lovely canvas for the work I enjoy doing.

Ideas for 'repairing' broken bottom strap eyelet on GRIIIx?

So, I somehow snapped the bottom eyelet on my GRIIIx, which is annoying as I really like attaching neck straps along the short end of the camera rather than just the corner or the top.

Wondering if this has happened to anybody else here, and if you had any clever solutions?

To be clear, this is the eyelet I broke:

Country Victoria locations for rustic scenes?

Ahoy all,

I'm thinking I'll take a road trip tomorrow and snap some nice photos while I'm at it. Lately I've been drawn to capturing things like rundown storefronts, abandoned fuel stops, boarded-up homes, old disused locations with some visible history, etc. 20th century stuff, preferably.

I know Warren Kirk gets out there a lot in the west and I've loved the work he posts to Flickr.

I'm not sure yet which direction I'll go (I'm in the outer east), but I'm thinking of places like Maldon, Lethbridge, Dunolly, and so on. Ideally no further than 2-3 hours drive from Melbourne, so I've actually got time to explore a little!

If there are 'closer' spots you'd recommend in the outer east (I know there's bound to be opportunities around Morwell, Traralgon, Sale, etc), I'd love to know.

So, all that said, I'd love some suggestions for places with these sorts of sights. 🙏

I love a stroll around Melbourne's iconic little hipster hub that is Fitzroy. Expensive to live there nowadays, but its storied history and vibes can still be seen all over!

All photos captured in raw and edited in Lightroom.
