Hello!! We are a small but passionate team looking into publishing and promoting special edition books written by authors local to our region (Southeast Asia). We have 2 main goals: 1) to be able to give a platform to our local authors and artists, and 2) to contribute to increasing functional literacy in our region (which is as low as 70%).
We are still in the early stages of planning how to go about this and we are not associated with any publisher/author yet. I know this sub is primarily NA/EU, so we appreciate any insights from the existing SE collectors on what makes a special edition 'special' to readers. Also welcoming discussion on this post! Realistically, the model of most book boxes in the US/UK doesn't work in developing countries like ours because it's a luxury. Our context is that our average minimum wage worker in the region earns about $400/month. We also barely have public libraries that encourage reading. We're trying to be able to find a balance on making books 'special' enough, but not too out of reach for most consumers.
