I have a fair amount of Ren earned from farming and fishing, but can’t figure out how to spend it in workshop. It doesn’t go in the drop pod and the orbital exchange system at Eden won’t take it. Any solutions?

Two friends grow up loving the outdoors, I think it’s somewhere east coast US. They live near some forest that has some kind of old “magic.” Time goes on, one still lives in the woods. The other (he has a mangled arm or some kind of other physical ailment) becomes a lawyer. Maybe has an office relationship with another lawyer?
I think the guy living in the woods maybe kills someone, I remember a scene with blood in it. Definitely a chapter about the two friends reconnecting and getting extremely drunk in the forest.
Some corporation or official wants forest guy to sell his land but he doesnt want to, lawyer friend helps?
