Goa & South Coast Workation - Take my own bike or just backpack & rent?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning a 1+ month workation, starting off in Goa and then slowly making my way down south along the coast. No concrete plans, I'll mostly go with the flow.

I’m really torn right now between riding my own bike down there vs. just backpacking and renting locally as and when needed.

Taking my bike has its convenience for daily use/short sunset/sunrise trips without having to worry about renting for entire day, but not taking my bike means absolute freedom, and more spontaneity.

For those who’ve taken their own bikes in goa/south india:

  • Is having your own vehicle actually worth the hassle for a long-term stay?
  • How bad is the cop situation? My main concern is getting unnecessarily harassed just for having an out-of-state number plate. Did you guys face much of this?

Also, I’ll be reaching Goa around August 31st (probably sooner if I decide to ditch the bike and take public transport). If anyone is around and wants to grab a drink, hangout or explore, hit me up!

Destination suggestions | Bike trip | This weekend

Hi, I'm looking for solo travel/workation destinations.
I got back from my 1st trip a few months back, got a cruiser, and now wanna start travelling again.

Constraints:

  1. Since I'm still new to touring, I wanna keep per day riding <500kms
  2. I'm starting from Nagpur, Maharashtra and need to be in Hyderabad on 31st. So, destination needs to be ~500kms from hyd.
  3. I'm planning to leave this weekend (17/18 July)

Goals:

  1. Socialize- so will be needing a hostel. I met fantastic people on my last trip, which made trip great tbh. Hoping I'll find good people this time around as well.
  2. Work- I got a remote job, so will have to work during the day, but the timings and work env. are flexible, so no hard caps around this.
  3. Explore- This should be more fun this time around, since I'll have my own bike.

Places I've thought of so far:

  1. Goa- I've been there once, but I've heard the monsoons are lush & less crowded. (I know it clashes with goal #1, but I'm hoping to meet travellers and not tourists)

All the other places I could think of are down south (>1300kms from my place), which is not possible rn, but I'll go that route mostly in september, for a longer cycle of 2-3months.

Please lemme know if you've got any places in mind/suggestions. Thanks!

Something off with my CB350C: gear ranges changed and it's dragging at low fuel

Hi, I've got a 2 month old Honda CB350C and noticed something odd.

I was experimenting with different fuel brands (HP, Jio, IOCL, etc.) to see which suits the bike best, and there is a real difference between them. On my last refill, I had about half a tank (7.5L) of HP premium left, then topped up with Jio normal fuel since premium wasn't available.

Next morning, I rode about 180 km, and the bike felt strangely powerful. Two issues:

Gear ranges shifted. 2nd gear used to max out around 40 kmph, but now held steady till 60. 3rd used to top out near 60, now goes to 80ish. This also messed up engine braking, since downshifting doesn't slow the bike the way it used to.

After around 250 km, once the tank hit half, the bike started feeling draggy. This has happened before. The service center just blamed the fuel and told me to stick to premium. But I'm not convinced it's only the fuel, since the drag seems to worsen as fuel level drops, which feels like more than a fuel quality issue.

I've got a 500 km trip coming up next week. Is this likely fuel-related, or should I get something specific checked at the service center?

I also asked an AI, which guessed it could be the ECU getting confused due to mixed fuel and ethanol content, but nothing concrete came of it.

Any insights/solutions are welcome.

(Note: I've used AI to compact my original written post)

Backrest/Sump guard recommendation

Hi, I've recently got the CB350c and wanted to get the backrest, but it's around ₹3000 for just the backrest. I can see the Auto infinity backrest online (₹1300), that mounts onto the existing setup. Honda one requires the existing rod to be removed, and the new one is included with the backrest.

  1. I'm not sure if spending 3000 on a backrest is justified, as the 3rd party one is less than half the price. Have any of you used a 3rd party backrest? Is there a noticeable difference?

  2. Also, the Honda sump guard seems too small, and I was thinking of going with the ones online, price is the same, but they seem to cover a bit more area.

Would appreciate pics/thoughts on the matter.
