Query about name translations/‘ethnic names’.
I’m Sicilian/cypriot but born in the UK. My whole family have names in their languages are are called by an English translation. My name is Louis, and I’d like an authentic Sicilian name. If I lived in Sicily, would you call me Louis or a Sicilian version? What would that version be? I’ve heard Luiggi is an ‘italianism’ and Luici is authentically Sicilian. Do you think it’s stupid of me to want to translate my name?
