Flavour king kinda bland.

Kinda disappointed.

Finally had flavour king fruit set. Had some issues with worms as well. But there was a good size fruit that became red and soft. Came of easily. Weight 39gr. Tasted very bland practically no aroma like a mealy supermarket plum. Idk if it is because of the weather. But I think it's unlikely. The cherries gave decent fruit

Thinking of taking it out and giving the Asian pear more space since I should have sufficient mid season fruit.

Disappointing year my potted greengage/plum got burnt up from the heatwave, so no delicious fruit from that. Apricot has been a battle with disease and insects especially stinkbugs. But there might still be some decent fruit to harvest.

Sunburst cherry was pretty good tho but it's still young so only a small amount.

Cut some because they simply melt in the heat.

So small bouquets it is.

For people who still believe you can't get decent blooms in medium size containers.

First: these aren't my pictures. But they inspired me to share. You can see the accounts in the pictures.

Yes I fully understand bigger pots are easier and more stable, especially for beginners. But as long as you can manage moisture and nutrients etc. you can still grow great plants in medium size pots.

And you can always uppot if you wish.

If you don't push you'll never discover the limits.

Bit of an odd year.

Part of my apricots already showing colour even before cherries etc. (granted it's more sun exposed). But I went back to check it's 3 weeks earlier than a similar stage last year. I was shocked today realising they're turning colour 1st of June.

Disease is also crazy between fungal and bacteria as you can see and now I saw some beetles too mating on them. I've partially given up on a decent crop from these trees because the weather has been all over the place. My oldest plum is basically not giving anything at all in terms of fruit.

Anytime I thought of spraying it was endless cool wet weather. Then a heat wave. I'm just letting it ride it's course this year.

Dinner plates still have me in a chokehold

Few bouquets I haphazardly threw together. The dinner plates still have me in a choke hold I think just 3 or so are enough to make a bouquet. I do wanna slowly get rid of most my peonies but this one makes it hard. The size and ruffles. I may put a few in the garden plot and just one or two there.

The rest are other varieties.

I just feel like they bloom so short for how long they are present. But it's been hard getting around to digging them out.

Why it's good to occasionally completely check soil in containers.

After over three years I wanted to redo this pot it looked dry and dead. I Almost didn't see them and was about to top it up with fresh soil and plant it up. I Was refreshing some soil in this one container and saw something strange move thinking it was a snail I looked closer...over 15 fat grubs in just one pot!

I think I'll be replacing it completely tossing the old soil. Already planted up another one but I can't remember If I saw anything I'll have to check them.

Last of the first wave.

With the bad weather I wasn't able to do much. So by the time I got to it a lot of the stems had aged and gotten some mildew. And I didn't feel like removing any bugs so I just cut the remainder and threw them in a vase outside for how long they'll last. If they scatter from age it's fine since it's outside.

If I have more energy later and the spring planted batch should bloom soon I might bring some in again. hopefully they don't abort with the upcoming heat.

Really need to get these beds cleared before it's too late for summer crops.

Soaked Fava beans impossible to process

Was thinking of making Egyptian fava beans falafel. Never really had such a big issue processing anything. soaked fava beans about 20 hours. Rinses it and tried to add it in a food processor. But they just don't blend it's been a struggle I tried a meat grinder different things and it's barely worked. Tried adding water same thing. Just a messy slop.

Has anyone ever grinded down fava beans for this?

Expensive Vs cheap supplier

After cleaning this area and planting some plugs I noticed some difference.

Interesting how the cheap supplier plants are performing better. Two of the same varieties both. The cheaper plants were similar size or slightly bigger as time of purchase. Obviously the second one is a poor comparison because it's in a container Vs in ground.

But the first one (pic 1) both in ground is already about 50% bigger but half the cost.

The second was three times cheaper and still quite small about 1/3 of the cheaper. But we could attribute this to in ground Vs container with how cool we've been.

I do have some more exclusive varieties from this nursery doing pretty well. So I don't necessarily regret buying from them. Because these varieties were already hard to find or sold out elsewhere.

(I'm not in the US so these are highly local stores.)

Also thinking about if these cages/trellises are large enough.

Started most my tomatoes and they're well hardened off by now. Around 5 to 7 inches. 12-15cm or so. Some maybe a bit taller. Looking healthy but outgrown their trays/pots which made sense for the idea to plant them this week according to planning. Since I don't fully have the space and potting soil to uppot every single plant ATM.

However we're dealing with some major may gloom likely the upcoming weeks....

Weather most days estimated between:

D 14-19C(55-65f) / N 7-11C (44-50F)

It could turn a bit of course but the majority of station report this for at least the next two weeks.

I planned a handful in pots, most inground, of which half at my new plot in mounds.

Really hoped it would warm up at least 5-7 degrees C by now....

Should I just plant or hold off a bit.

Love smelling it. Slowly opening some blooms. I need to properly stake it but it's such a thorny B! It attacks me anytime I try to give it love. Partially why I regret it in this location.

Accidentally Broke of this single bulb the growth point looked shriveled. And basically wrote it off. But it sprouted anyways. Hope to turn this into a new plant division.

Some of the plants are really healthy with hand sized leaves. A few plants are struggling but I'll just cull them. I'll be putting more effect into strawberries this year in hope of getting better yields.

Also started a new in ground plot. But It'll need to properly establish. I'm only really expecting decent yield next year
