Pannini Stickers

Did you ever complete a full book/set?

Were you into sports or tv/movies

How did you get yours:

- blowing all your pocket money every week and cursing at the duplicates?
- swaps ? (and subsequent arguments/learning bartering skills)
- free with goods ? cereal ? maybe crisps ?

What was the most prized sticker you longed for ?

I was very pleased when I got all the Wilma and SpaceVampires.

Smurfs - collectibles, song, cartoon - from National and BP garages

Which one did you really desire, and bug your parents to choose/get?

They were indestructible.

Think the mushroom house was highly sought-after - it even came with a key didn't it ?

If I remember rightly you had to collect these paper tokens, and then trade them in for the collectible of your choice.

First got promoted by National garages, then BP followed suit.

Oh they fell out after Bullseye 😞

The clash between presenter Jim Bowen and entertainer Carol Lee Scott (best known as the green-faced children's TV witch, Grotbags) occurred backstage after her guest appearance on the ITV darts game show Bullseye in 1984 [1, 2].

The incident unfolded with the following details:

  • The Broadcast: Scott, who had known Bowen for years from their time on the club circuit, made an out-of-character appearance to throw darts for charity. During her turn, she threw a dart off the board and blatantly walked up to the board to take another attempt, bringing a highly comedic, pantomime energy to the show. [1, 2, 3]
  • The Argument: According to Bowen's 1998 biography From a Bundle of Rags, the two had a heated backstage exchange immediately after filming. Bowen made offhand comments criticizing her performance and on-screen antics, which Scott took poorly. [1]
  • The Fallout: The pair traded several sharp remarks during the argument and reportedly refused to ever speak to each other again. [1]

Duty Free sitcom

  • David Pearce (Keith Barron)
  • Amy Pearce (Gwen Taylor)
  • Linda Cochran (Joanna Van Gyseghem)
  • Robert Cochran (Neil Stacy)
  • Carlos (Carlos Douglas)

Amy always got her own back on David and Linda, and her retaliations were a joy to watch, if a little cruel and calculated sometimes.

fishing rod "offer" from cereals or something?

I'm trying to unlock a deep memory.

About a "Fishing Rod" offer.

It was send away, and pay a token amount to get it, and may have involved collecting "box" tokens.

I thought it was cereal for some reason but could have been something else.

The "rod" was on a long flat bit of cardboard, with a blister pack over the top.

Zoom ball

You had to strain yourself to pull apart the 2 strings, to "whizz" the ball along the line.

Can't remember the purpose of the game....but I think doing it so hard, it rapped the knuckles of your brother/sister was part of it lol.

Was very popular on beaches too.

Something like this:

Dunlop Swingball

You had to abvoid getting a mouthful of ball from your brother or sister or clonked on the head.

And the sound of defeat/failure when it got tangled up/stalled in the metal spring.

Games often ended in arguments like "you are doing it wrong".

And if you were playing on your own, one of difficult things to try, was to get your coordination right so you kept it spinning around in the same direction by strategic smashes.

Those bats were interesting too, just solid chunks of plastic with a grid in them

Was very popular on beaches too !
