Matching My Baddie Granny Top to My Gray Hair

I’m loving the return of low rise jeans. These aren’t crazy low, and all necessary parts remain covered even when bending over or sitting down. I’m at an age, where I thought I was too old (in my 30s back then) to wear low rise jeans in the early 2000s, and now IDGAF lol! We do what we want, when we want, right? 😄

Gray Hair, Dress Color?

I’ve been gray haired for almost 20 years. For a lot of that time, I stuck to wearing black, white, or gray clothing. I felt it looked “put together,” and as if having gray hair was an aesthetic choice lol. Now, at 59, I wear more colors but I’m still not used to it. I somehow have the identical dress in two different denim washes. Which looks better overall?

I’m 59 and this may be the perfect summer skirt for “mature” women

Ok, this skirt is actually perfect for anyone of any age (let me not gate keep 😏). But I’m addressing my kindred older women specifically here: this skirt is breezy, cool, comfortable, stylish—and provides coverage if you want it. This skirt lets you cover or show what you like, whether for modesty, confidence, or your sense of style. This is the High Waisted Contrast Mesh 2-in-1 Pocket Flowy Midi Flare Casual Skirt in the color apricot brandy.

On a personal note, many of us have been taught to scrutinize our perceived flaws, especially as we age: cellulite, sun damage, varicose veins, swelling, weight gain, and even knee wrinkles 🙄. The list goes on and on, and society is constantly adding to it. Usually I have the confidence to accept and celebrate these changes as a natural and mostly inevitable part of living a long time. But I still want clothing that complements my body as it is now, and gives me the assurance and comfort to forget about what I’m wearing and focus on important things in life. If any of that resonates with you, you will especially appreciate this summer skirt.

I’ve been a big fan of Halara for years now, and I’m glad they keep making clothes that we actually want to wear.

In the Weeds Comparison of Pants Sizing

This is a pretty specific comparison, but might help someone choose their size. I have several pairs of the DayStretch High Waisted Pocket Straight Leg Work Pants in various colors. Some I’ve bought in size S (in deep red gray), and some in XS (in midnight blue), all in standard length. Because these pants are so forgiving, both sizes fit, but you can see they hang slightly differently. I feel it quite a bit wearing them. I’m 5’4” and weigh 116 pounds. I prefer the XS because the closer fit shortens the length enough to make a difference in the shoes I can wear (I prefer flats). Also, while both sit at my waist, the larger of the two feels baggy in the butt and front rise. (Sometimes that’s a good thing.) I really love these pants and keep picking them up in different colors and honestly find the weight of the fabric perfect all year. To find work pants that look professional, and that are so comfortable you can do yoga in them (I have in a pinch), has been a dream after a long career spent in office environments. Anyway, sharing in case this helps anyone.

Would You Wear this Top to Work?

These pieces are labeled as workwear. The pants feel great and are comfortable enough to even nap in lol (believe me, at my age I do). For the top, the pros are that it has forgiving ruching and an actual effective built-in bra; the con is that it feels too revealing for work, even with a blazer or cardigan. I’m 59 and feel like the top is a nonstarter for work (lawyer and professor). I’d wear it out in the evening. But I’m wondering is this something that would fly in your workplace?

EDIT: Ok, kind internet helpers, I think we’re almost all in agreement that this “work tank top” is not going to cut it in most workplaces. You’ve convinced me I’m not just prudish boomer. So, real question: are you comfortable with this neckline in any situation?

In-Office Days

Halara has made me expect more from work clothes. I’m 59 years old and have been waiting my whole career for these pants! They’ve shown it’s possible to make stylish, professional pieces that are so comfortable I don’t have to rush home after work and immediately rip them off to change into sweats 😕. Not that I would do this every day, but I have literally worn these pants after work for yoga—which is crazy and absolutely impossible in the structured tailored pants and tops I’ve spent an entire career in. Sitting (even crisscrossed) and stretching is easy in these pants. They are Flex DayStretch High Waisted Pocket Straight Leg Work Pants in the color deep red gray. I have these in multiple colors and sizes (these are a small but I prefer the xtra small. I’ll post a comparison of the sizes another day.). I’m 5’4” and 115 pounds.

Now, a word about the top: it’s the V Neck Ruched Built-Bra Work Tank Top in the color arctic wolf, size XS. I don’t know about your office, but this top is a little too “exciting” for my workplace. I love it, the ruching is forgiving and the effective built-in bra is basically my dream top. So, I won’t necessarily wear it to work, but I will wear the heck out of it everywhere else 🙂.

You Always Steer Me in the Right Direction

I’m attending an early evening reception at an art gallery. The crowd will mostly be older, around my age 🙃 (50s and 60s), and fairly eclectic. I’ll likely be standing the whole time. Both outfits are comfortable. I’m deciding between two outfits (two pics of each). Which do you think?

InstantCool Joggers?! Yes, Thanks

I knew I’d like these joggers, but I didn’t know I’d love them. They’re very lightweight, quick dry, with interesting ruching down each leg—and they’re UPF40+. (I take sun protection super seriously for my aging skin.) What I’m really into is that these pants are stretchy, even though they look like nylon joggers. They’re called High Waisted Drawstring Ruched Tapered Quick Dry InstantCool Dance Joggers, although I haven’t yet danced in them lol. Great for a workout, walk, or running errands. I chose ankle length, size small, in the color Red Mahogany.

No Rolling Waistband!

I’m the wrong person (think: too old) for this training jumpsuit. I thought I might wear it for yoga or to dance class, but I think it would be much better for someone taking Pilates or barre classes. What’s really great about this piece is that you don’t have to worry about the waistband rolling down or your top riding up. It also has handy pockets. The fabric is excellent and sturdy enough that it’s not see-through even when bending. It also was surprisingly easy to use the restroom. 😅 Even though I’ll pass it on to someone else, I wanted to share that if you’re thinking a training jumpsuit would be good for your workouts, this is an excellent choice. Look for the UltraSculpt Tummy Control Training Jumpsuit with Pockets—Easy Peezy Edition.

It’s my 59th birthday—lunch outfit?

This week I complete another revolution around the sun. Which of these two outfits for a midweek late lunch with a few friends? Patio seating on the riverwalk in Chicago. I’ll be slathered in sunscreen and maybe also wearing a big hat (it’s hot here!). Both outfits have pockets and are equally comfortable.

Point Me in the Right Direction, Please

I have plans this week to meet a friend I haven’t seen for a couple years for a very casual lunch and an outdoor two-mile walk. These outfits are all equally comfortable. The first is a stretchy athletic dress in dark blue (the color doesn’t show up much even in person). The second outfit I definitely would wear on a solo morning walk, but exposed midriff may be too much out in public at my age (I’m a 58 year old, gray haired woman). The third outfit has gauzy, breezy pants that hit just above the ankle. I know these all give off different vibes, so please tell me what to do 🤔

Another Day, Another Workout, Another Halara Top

Ignore the mess I am, and check out the top. This is the Crisscross Back Crossover Hem Yoga Cami top in the spooky sounding color: Ghost Gray. This feels a little less “gym coded,” and more like I could wear this out and about with jeans or shorts. I’m (obviously) an older person, and the top felt good during yoga, and kept everything in place. 👀 another Halara win.

Gray Oompa Loompa Hair, but this Yoga Top is On Point

Halara does yoga wear so well. I just finished working out (hence the hair issue…) and this top performs. It stays put, provides coverage, and is UPF50. The fabric is smooth with the right amount of compression, and feels luxe. The bonus is the rich color and cool straps and back. The molded cups in the built-in bra make sure that there are no wardrobe malfunctions! This is the Ultrasculpt Cool Quick Dry Yoga Cami Top in the color Tulip Purple. This is a contender for my new favorite workout top.

Internet Village, I Could Really Use an Opinion

I have an evening birthday party to attend. Required attire is dressy, and in the colors black, white, or a combination of the two. I have gray hair and usually stick to those colors anyway. The black dresses in these pics are all stretchy, forgiving ruching, which is very comfy. I think outfit #1 is a “no go” because it’s way too much boobs for my age. But I included it for consideration because what the heck. The skirt in outfit #3 is a layered chiffon that moves really nicely. Lately jewelry has been bothering me so I might not wear any. I want to look presentable, and be able to dance all night. The shoes are kind of nonnegotiable because they’re very comfortable. Please tell me which I should go with.

Edit: I’m 58 years old. And I really appreciate the thoughtful feedback.
