CORU accreditation in Ireland post PhD ?????

Not sure if anyone here can help, but I am on track to complete my PhD in 2027.

I’ve always wanted to be a clinical microbiologist, I chose my degree in Trinity in Biological and Biomedical science when I was 17 and didn’t realise it wasn’t CORU accredited, I was just so excited to get accepted to trinity, my 17 year old self never checked it was CORU accredited.

Fast forward 10 year later I graduated my undergraduate degree specialising in microbiology, worked as a research assistant at another university in a microbiology lab, then went on to do a PhD researching Antimicrobial resistance and my PhD will be a medical science PhD from a decent university in the UK.

I still regret not doing a CORU accredited degree, and still want to be a clinical microbiologist, even with a PhD in Medical Science, im not accredited to work in Ireland as a medical scientist.

I’m looking at doing a Higher Diploma in Medical Science which will get me an accreditation but I don’t think I have another 2 years of my life or €15,990 to spare.

I also have no interest in learning about anything not relating to microbiology, I’ve been there and done that during my undergraduate, and doing another degree would require me to do this.

Does anyone know of any alternative routes to get this accreditation??????

Why do funerals in the UK take place so late after the death?

Hello, Irish in the UK, friend of mine passed away about 5 days ago and the funeral won’t take place for another 11 days.

In Ireland, funerals take place within 2-4 days of death under “normal” circumstances, i.e. no foul play suspected.

Why do funerals take place so late after death here?

How do you guys cope with such a long gap before you get to say goodbye to your loved ones?

Best wishes, thanks for having me.

Edit: WOW! Thank you all for all your responses i wasn’t expecting so many so soon!

Thank you for explaining, this has given me a lot of insight and helped me to understand the process.

Edit 2: please don’t interpret this as a “whose funeral traditions are better” conversation, it’s not. Different strokes for different folks. There is no one correct way to grieve.

I just wanted to understand and make better sense of what was going on with my friend. I wanted to also understand how you guys feel about, what to me feels like a “long gap”.

I love and respect my UK friends.

God bless❤️

27 F, non-smoker, 5ft 3, 57kg, typically active and would normally weigh 54/55kg but sprained my ankle 3 weeks ago so ive gained 3kg lol, adhd, take 70mg Vyvanse, endometriosis, 1 laparoscopy in 2023 plus ablation of endometriosis from uteroscaral ligaments, 2nd laparoscopy in 2025 plus excision of endometriosis from uteroscaral ligaments, near my bladder, and pouch of Douglas.

Problems with bladder started before the 2025 surgery around December 2024, included leaking during exercise, but not outside of exercise, needing to urgently pee when bladder isn’t full. It’s really bad, I get scared to drink water when I’m exercising. I’m embarrassed that people in work will think I’m doing drugs.

I went two more times in the night but didn’t record because I was half asleep and didn’t wanna wake myself up by measuring and recording, went to bed at 9pm. I realise I wrote 11pm on this but that’s the time I went to bed the night before.

Does this look like overactive bladder, or something more sinister?

I peed a total volume of 3,185mL
(Not including the two times after 9pm idk what they were I was barely awake)
Drank a total volume of 2,563mL

I was asked to keep this journal by a pelvic physiotherapist.

Luetal phase before my period when I did this diary is typically worse, I told the physiotherapist I was going about 8/9 times a day but it’s worse and I don’t see the physiotherapist for another 3 weeks to review this so I’m worried I should go to the GP before.

Edit to include never been pregnant

Edit just weighed myself there I’m back to 55kg, must’ve been retaining fluid while I was pre-menstrual.

Edit to add because I forgot, I have a pelvic prolapse of my back wall between my bowel and uterus, which is why I’m getting pelvic physio as well as for my bladder.
