((TLDR: Roommate is a grown adult who’s believing in zines about ancestral hygiene and trying to adapt to that but also purposefully lying, avoiding accountability as well as not using her time wisely to help me and our other roommate.))
I (29NB) and other roommate (32M) have this roommate (30MTF) who we have had for a little over a year now and in the beginning she was great! On top of things made sure her side of the chores were done and everything. But then all of a sudden around May of this year she has started declining. She’s a “punk” and is starting to read zines about how “our ancestors too care of their hygiene” and has slowly started to not shower for weeks on end, inviting hook ups over and having the downstairs living space smell of unwashed ass and hook up smell but now she’s been leaving food in bowls and Leaving them to rot for weeks on end even when me and our male roommate have asked her multiple times to bring the dishes up. Not only does our downstairs living space smell like cat piss from a previous roommate (they tried their best to get rid of the smell) but the combination of cat piss, sweat and hook up smell has been getting worse and worse to where I can smell it from the basement door in the kitchen when it’s closed. She’s also recently gotten into the habit of using sticks from our yard to brush her teeth and when we interact with her it’s like getting hit with two types of fowl smells you desperately try not to throw up or gag at.
((Forgot to mention she works in food service in the kitchens…))
The second thing is the fact that we have told her multiple times to keep the doors to the house locked and yet refuses to lock them, doesn’t communicate about bringing random people over and is wanting us to remind her about events, hang outs or to remind her to lock the doors. I feel like as a 30yo you shouldn’t have to be reminded.
Me and the other roommate are counting down the days till our lease ends so we can move out but even that’s another issue since she refuses to put said roommate on the lease because she doesn’t want to reach out to the new landlords, doesn’t want us to have the numbers or get our house fixed up.
How do we even approach all this AGAIN without sounding like a parent trying to discipline a child? I don’t understand how someone can willingly live like that and continue to harm their roommates.
