DSA member Angie Nixon has pulled off another anti-establishment upset in Florida’s Democratic senate primary, defeating anti-Trump resistance Liberal Alex Vindman despite being dramatically out fundraised and outspent. Nixon campaigned on medicare for all, a $25 minimum wage, affordable childcare, rent controls, taxing corporations and billionaires, and an end both to the genocide in Gaza and the Iran war. Her win is another case of an outsider progressive candidate defeating better funded establishment backed contenders in Democratic primaries. Obviously, Florida’s heavily Republican electorate makes her November race against Republican Ashley Moody (who is not without her own scandals) an uphill battle.

Meanwhile in the Persian Gulf

American service members deployed in the Persian Gulf have found the time to write in the dust on an aircraft’s wings. Some of the phrases include “be a good g-y and do what Israel tells you to!!!”, “I love Israel I am a good g-y”, “all this for the holy land”, “Bibi’s cucks”, and “operation Epstein fury”, along with more anodyne statements like “peace deal #64 incoming”, “I ❤️ flock cameras”, and “sux wieners and balls”, along with games like tic-tac-toe and hangman. This perhaps suggests a lack of belief in the justness of the war they have been asked to risk their lives in. Over 400 US service members have been wounded thus far, and nearly 20 have died. May they rest in peace.

It’s called "LLM poisoning”

The Israeli government paid a former Trump advisor $46.5 million to make fake websites, specifically to manipulate how AI chatbots talk about Gaza. This sneaky tactic is called "LLM poisoning”. instead of targeting humans, they built a network of pro Israel websites specifically designed to get sucked up into AI training datasets.

And it actually worked! The bottom image shows the AI search engine Perplexity answering a question about US-Israel military cooperation by citing "Allyvia" as its main source. Allyvia is one of the exact fake sites Parscale's firm created. This is a real example of how AI systems can be intentionally fed biased data to secretly shape their answers. (And before people say “wHaT aBoUt QaTaR?”, Miriam Adelson alone gave Trump $250 million for annexation of the West Bank and war with Iran. Foreign influence bad.)

Pool’s closed (the pool is the Bab al Mandab strait)

Oil prices surged past $99 a barrel, hitting their highest mark since late May, after the Iran backed Houthi rebels attacked two Saudi tankers with missiles and drones in the Red Sea. It's a big deal because the Bab al Mandab Strait is Saudi Arabia's crucial detour route since Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump warns of "major military punishment" for the Houthis if they enter the war, despite the fact the Trump and Biden launched literally thousands of strikes on the Houthis and failed to defeat them (and Trump said that they were brave and that “we honour their word”(he was clearly impressed, which is funny)).

MAGA communism VS AI

Per Axios latest reporting: China’s Moonshot AI just released Kimi K3, a massive 2.8 trillion parameter open weight model that has basically erased America's exclusive frontier AI lead, with Kimi K3 matching or beating heavyweight US proprietary models like Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 on key coding benchmarks.

Because Moonshot plans to be open source, it’s causing a major political freakout in Washington. Axios reports the Trump administration is even weighing a controversial executive order to ban Chinese models and hold US firms legally accountable for risks when hosting Chinese models. While China hawks and economic protectionists push for restrictions, tech insiders like David Sacks warn that panic banning these cheaper open alternatives will only destroy American AI’s economic competitiveness.

4/5ths of the quality, 1/10th of the price

While American giants like OpenAI used to entirely dominate the artificial intelligence race, Chinese models like DeepSeek and Qwen are crashing the party. Recent benchmark data shows Chinese models are practically matching top tier US models in coding and math.

The real game changer is comparative price and accessibility. US models remain mostly closed and expensive, prioritizing premium reasoning. Meanwhile, Chinese developers are releasing open weight models that cost a fraction of the price, sometimes literally 95% cheaper per token.
Because of this massive cost-to-performance gap, businesses are shifting to Chinese AI. They are adopting a hybrid approach: routing everyday tasks to ultra cheap Chinese models, and saving the pricey American AI strictly for the heaviest lifting when necessary.

AP-NORC poll shows NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani is actually more popular among American Jews than Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. Mamdani, a major critic of Israel who promised to arrest Netanyahu over an ICC warrant if he visits New York, scored a 44% favorability rating among American Jews. Meanwhile, Netanyahu landed a measly 32% favorability, with 59% viewing him negatively. Only 42% of American Jews support Israel's continued military action in Gaza, and 30% believe Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.

Comrade Kamala🌹

Kamala Harris is gearing up for 2028, by publicly courting the progressive left. According to Axios, Harris recently reached out to Zohran Mamdani, the rising star Democratic Socialist (DSA) Mayor of New York City. Mamdani confirmed the call, noting they chatted about his working class agenda.

This is a major pivot. Back in 2024, Mamdani and the pro-Palestinian left refused to back Harris over Gaza. But after DSA backed candidates just crushed it in the recent New York primaries under Mamdani's influence, and since Washington, Seattle, and Colorado have all recently elected DSA candidates to high level positions, Mamdani’s political clout is undeniable. By smoothing things over with Mamdani and the broader DSA, Harris is clearly trying to mend fences and win back the young, anti-war progressives she lost in the last election.

Upward Ho!

Siena College poll shows Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s favorability bump up to an impressive 58% favorable, 26% unfavorable within New York City. This is an improvement from 56% favorable, 34% unfavorable in April.

Note the 8 point decrease in unfavorability.

On the flip side, President Trump’s ratings haven't moved much over this same period, staying at their second-term lows. Overall, while voters are feeling slightly better about New York’s direction, economic concerns remain their clear priority.

Ranking American Politicians

Poll breaking down popularity of American political figures using a "feeling thermometer" scale from 0 to 100 to gauge public sentiment toward various political figures. "DK" (Don't Know) responses show how recognizable or obscure certain figures are to the average voter.

Barack Obama leads the pack with a 54 rating, significantly outpacing other politicians, followed by Bernie Sanders and Zohran Mamdani.

Culture war

China’s clean energy manufacturing is insanely massive, bringing in a staggering $2.1 trillion annually, making the sector big enough to rival the entire economy of Canada or Brazil. If you look strictly at direct factory sales, they pump out about $1 trillion worth of green tech every single year. It marks a huge structural shift in China, as clean tech has officially dethroned fossil fuels as China’s primary source of energy, and real estate and development as China's primary economic engine. Today, green manufacturing sales single handedly fuel over a third of China's entire GDP growth, turning the global energy transition into their ultimate industrial and financial powerhouse.

Meanwhile the Trump administration aggressively roll back renewable subsidies, and right-wingers actively deride the “green new scam”. It didn’t have to be this way.
