My electrologist doesn’t allow any aftercare — is this normal?
I recently started electrolysis (I’ve had two sessions so far yay!) and I’m a little confused about the aftercare instructions I was given.
My electrologist doesn’t allow me to use basically any aftercare products at all!! The only thing she allows is baby powder.
I’m not allowed to use any creams, ointments, sprays, aloe vera, ice etc. She specifically repeated these instructions several times right after the treatment (with a very serious tone).
I’m just confused because I see so many people here recommending different types of aftercare after electrolysis, so I’m wondering if my electrologist’s approach is unusual or if this is actually pretty common.
After my first session, I had some redness, tiny white bumps around the follicles, and some scabbing. The bumps disappeared after about 3 days I’d say, while the scabs took around a week to heal. Same process for my second session.
I’m not trying to go against my electrologist’s instructions (and I still haven’t), but I’d really like to know what other people were told to do after their sessions.
Does anyone else have an electrologist who doesn’t allow any aftercare products?
A little additional context about my electrologist: She has been doing electrolysis for 20+ years and has personally struggled with facial hair herself. She actually became an electrologist after dealing with her own hair growth. Most of her clients have pcos and their reviews are amazing. She only does thermolysis.
