Tips/advice for reducing post treatment breakouts

Hi all- I’m prepping for my 5th session and wanted to know if anyone had any advice on reducing post treatment breakouts. I realize that some skin irritation is inevitable, but my skin has freaked out every single session so far and I’ve had a lot of acne/discoloration from it. I’ve followed all the general post treatment instructions already like no working out for 48 hours, no harsh chemicals, no touching my skin, etc. Has anyone here with sensitive skin found a solid routine to reduce breakouts? It’s getting to the point where I’m no longer sure I can continue my treatment if I keep breaking out like this.

Want to add a side note that my electrolysis is great and I don’t think it’s her/her studio. I guess I can’t be 100% sure but she’s been extremely knowledgeable so far and she has amazing reviews. My game plan so far is to continue the treatments and then do a few peels/ micro needling once I’m finished.

Thanks!

Permanent discoloration?

This is 12 days after treatment. I moved countries and this place had good recs, but while we were in session I heard popping, not constant, looked it up afterwards and it seems like it was a bad sign, haven't scheduled any followups but now I'm really worried that it's going to be permanent.

Would it be worth it for me?

So I know it’s not a ton of hair, but it’s one of my biggest insecurities. I’m pretty sure my facial hair growth was triggered by laser hair removal and I want it totally gone. I’m a terrible skin picker so I’ve got scarring now from trying to pluck hairs. How many hours would you guess I would need to get rid of the hairs I have?

Shaved my face every morning for 20 years before I could start getting electrolysis.

It’s like I’m living a new life, I look back at how my hair used to be and just stare and disbelief. I’ve gotten over 170 hours of electrolysis over the last five years, and it has changed my life!!

Reasons for tugging sensation

Had a consult with a new electrologist and I asked if she has ever had to double treat a follicle if it doesn’t come out. She say if the hair is thick and doesn’t come out, she will sometimes zap it 2 or three times. And that she does her best to avoid the tugging sensation, but sometimes you might feel like plucking/tugging if the skin is dry, or if the bulb is thick, but it doesn’t mean the hair wasn’t treated

I’m thinking back to another electrologist who insisted that the plucking sensation should never happen

And now I’m confused. Can experts (if they are here) chime in and let me know if this new electrologist is a red flag?

Found an electrologist and asked if there is a pulling or tweezing sensation after her treatment and she sort of avoided my question.

I found someone near me reasonable price and I asked her what I should expect it to feel like and if there was tweezing. She told me we could talk about it over on the phone but I was busy. I then asked if she could just Confirm my question for the time being and she said to wait so she could explain it more…

The day of our scheduled call I sent her a video of proper electrolysis being done with no pull or resistance after the zap. I said “is this what your treatment looks like?” and she was kinda avoiding the question again saying “oh yes a probe uses electricity to kill the hair and I discuss it in my consultation.”

When I call I am a little nervous on confronting her on the phone 😭 (I know) so I don’t ask but she never chooses to follow up with my questions I sent through text. She says she has free consultations and she’ll explain more there .

I found a client of hers who’s been going three years for chin hairs and says she’s been seeing results…. I asked if she felt a pluck and she said “with less pain than a regular pluck but I still feel it.”

Finally I saw a post from this electrologist where she says “job fulfillment is when your client falls asleep during her upper lip treatment.” ….. it made me nervous because I feel like a true treatment on the upper lip would NOT allow you to sleep unless you’re just sleeping.

A lot of over explaining I’m sorry 😭🤣. Would you still show up to a consultation? I have social anxiety so I am not great with confrontation but we already made an appointment- I just wanted to share the details and see if other people would go.

Is this normal? First electrolysis session

Hi 👋

I had my first electrolysis session 4 days ago. This this amount of redness normal? Has anyone else gotten a bruise? I worry and just want to know if I'm being irrational.

Thanks :)

Edit: should I wait until I'm fully healed before going back or if im still pink Tuesday still go regardless? Thanks

Ruined upper lip skin texture

This is my upper lip skin texture 4 months post electrolysis. This was caused by only one 30min session. Is there a chance this scarring might resolve on its own?

If an electrologist is plucking

If an electrologist is plucking, should the client say something respectfully like, oh aren't they supposed to come out smooth? Or just suck it up? Because I feel like that is the real way to know if they are doing a good job killing follicles or just prolonging treatment time ($$). Although, not sure. I am new to this

Continue LHR or go for electrolysis?

I had 6 sessions of laser hair removal on my beard and it felt largely ineffective. Pain-wise it was like a 3/10 to me and the techs kept saying how red my skin was, assuming that's why they wouldn't turn up the settings more. I also understand I have a fair amount of grays in my beard, but I was hoping for more a knockdown than what I got. These pics are after 3 days of not shaving.

So now, I'm wondering, do I find a different LHR place and try my luck there, or just go straight to electrolysis?

Not allowed to shave/pluck between sessions, what can I do?

I’m so desperate.

Looking for advice, I’ve got my first session tomorrow and I’m super excited but I could have cried when I was told I couldn’t shave between sessions. During my consultation I was told to come once every 2 weeks at the start and then less as time when on but the idea of letting it grow out for 2 weeks genuinely affects my mental health. I’m getting patches on my jawline and neck done and I 1000% cannot go 2 weeks without touching it, she suggested I trim but I honestly don’t know if that will help my feelings at all. I was thinking of trimming very short consistently until about 3 days before and just leaving after that but I struggle so much with my self esteem and my mind and I’m just not sure what to do. I know this is the best thing to do but I feel so depressed and defeated.

Any advice is welcome

Had my first session today and it was great

Hey everyone!

Had my first session today (30 mins) and it was honestly brilliant. I didn’t find the process very painful at all, I didn’t use numbing cream because I wanted to establish a baseline of how painful it was but most areas on my jawline didn’t hurt at all!! Another thing that impresses me is the fact my face isn’t red, my skin looks calm which I’m quite glad about. I plan on icing my face in a few hours and applying 100% aloe Vera In a good few hours but I’m so happy with the process!!

I know everyone has different experiences but honestly it seems worth it and I wouldn’t say the pain/redness is bad! Can’t wait for session 2 in 2 weeks

Helpppp, Update for last post

Above is my previous post.

Can you imagine 3 months later she left me a review on Google claiming I gave her an atrophic scar. Something she never even said anything about and if you saw the scab, it’s the smallest scab ever. For reference she is a doctor which makes this even more shocking as she can’t under stand there are no absolutes in science and I don’t her not to disturb it. It’s bordering harassment at this stage no?

The reason why I’m stressing is because I only have five reviews that are five star and this one to review heavily has heavily impacted my score on Google. I know it’s her but the name she used on Google does not make it certain it is her so would you reply saying that I have no record of a person named this as the name she left the review with is not the name that I have on file?

Having my 5th session today

I am always really excited because I feel like I am already seeing a difference and progress after 2 45 min sessions and 2 30 min sessions!
It’s extremely expensive (150€ for 30 mins) and I have to take the train around 3,5 hours to go back and forth to the studio but I feel so much better and more feminine as the hairs get less!!
Now I feel like I am seeing results but still have a long way to go. I mean maybe if I am lucky I am halfway through!
The only thing I regret is not starting earlier. But maybe it’s for the better because I have PCOS and hair was still coming up on my chin, upper lip and nipples.
The only thing - now I can now wax/pluck my nipple hair, and feel like I don’t want to show it to anyone!! Before I could have one night stands and just before get rid of all the hair, now there is always some hair and redness and scabbing around my nipples 😭
I can not wait for this to be over, and the hair to be gone!!!! Nipple hair really feels the worst for me

Hair removal between sessions

went for an electrolysis consult today and she said to stop shaving and only wax/tweeze/thread between sessions. I was confused because every other resource says just to shave… she uses a blend electrolysis. does this make sense?

How to minimise PIH/scabbing after first session? How much do I have to change my routine?

Hello everyone,

I have my first session tomorrow and I’m worried about PIH/scabbing after. I have PIH marks on my neck and jawline from years of plucking and started a skincare routine a month ago aimed at brightening my skin and reducing pre-existing PIH. I use alpha arbutin, niacinimide with zinc, moisturiser and sunscreen in the AM and Azelaic acid in the PM, how long before my treatment should I stop using and how long after can I resume?

What are some ways you guys minimise potentially scabbing, redness and PIH? For some context I have type 4 skin (light to medium brown, tans easily) and wear sunscreen daily to prevent any darkening. My electrologist mentioned that they have a sunscreen that they can apply after. Just looking for ways to decrease redness afterwards and to prevent PIH and scabbing to the best of my ability whilst keeping up my skincare routine. Should I buy aloe Vera? And if so when should I apply? Am I able to moisturise the day of?

Derm says Laser over Electrolysis

Hi! I just started seeing a dermatologist and she told me that electrolysis only targets white hair and that laser hair removal would be the better option for facial hair. The thing is I did a lot of research and I thought electrolysis goes for the root of the hair so hair color is a non issue… I would love input, please help 😭😭
