My (28F) best friend (28F) chose a trip with a new guy over our small-group trip, causing it to get cancelled

Hey everyone, I need an objective perspective on a situation with my best friend. English is not my first language so I used AI to write the post.

Some context: A small group of 3 of us (my best friend, me and another guy) were planning a summer trip to stay at my family’s house in another region. Because we were using my family’s place, the dates were fixed based on availability.

A few days prior, my best friend had started talking to a new guy. She was considering several different week options to travel with him. However, she ultimately chose the same dates as our group trip because, according to her, picking other dates would cut her summer short / break up her routine and she wanted a “slow summer”.

Because she picked those specific dates with him, she dropped out of our trip, which directly caused the group plan to be cancelled (there were only 2 of us left and do not have such a tight relationship to go on a several-day trip together).

I'm feeling really hurt and frustrated about a few things:

  1. She had multiple date options to travel with the new guy, while our dates were fixed.
  2. It left me with no major summer plans right before I have to undergo a medical procedure that will keep me stuck at home recovering.

When I tried to express my frustration about the situation, she told me I was manipulating and pressuring her. She feels that since we already have another short 4-day trip booked together the following week, we are seeing each other anyway, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

I get that people are independent, free to manage their summer however they want, and not responsible for my entertainment. Also it’s true that my best friend expressed from the beginning that she was also considering traveling with the news guy in those exact days. However, I had shared with her days prior that I was going through a rough patch emotionally, feeling down, and had very few plans for August. While I respect her autonomy, I expected a bit more empathy and flexibility from my best friend, and I feel that she had the option to make both trips work, but chose not to.

How would you approach this? I have been feeling so down these past days and don’t know how to get over it.

ETA (if it adds context): I proposed the trip to 5-6 people but since it was a bit last minute most of them already had other plans / could not make it. So only 3 of us (including me) were left.

Should I try laser first or go directly with electrolysis

I want to remove hair around the nipples. Most of them are vellus but I have several terminal hairs which I find very annoying when they are growing, I’m conscious about them and they have impacted my relationships.

I’m afraid laser will make it worse. I don’t have PCOS, my testosterone is within a normal range but on the higher end, but as a teenager I had hormonal imbalances. So I was thinking about getting electrolysis and getting rid of it for good.

I’ve read however that some people advice to try laser first.

I am a woman by the way.

IPL advice

I (25F) have always been quite hairy. Both my parents are as well so it’s mainly genetics although during my teens I believe there was also some kind of hormonal imbalance (used to have high testosterone and other hormones).

I’m especially conscious about some chest hair I have. I have never told anyone and it has definitely impacted my sexual life and relationships but it’s another story. I finally gathered the courage to tell my gyno and she told me I could do laser but that she wanted to prescribe blood work to make sure nothing hormonal was going on. The tests came back clear, testosterone, estrogen and progesterone all at regular levels.

Im too conscious to do laser in that area so I was thinking about buying an IPL device. Will it work there? Are there any risks/downsides? Any personal experiences? Thanks in advance.

Edit to add: I don’t have PCOS neither, or least no cysts in ovaries, and my periods are very regular and not too heavy.

Does your firm have 24/7 IT support?

I need to work this weekend. I turn on my computer and a blue screen comes up, stating I need to type the “BitLocker recovery key”. I log in to my account from my work phone to access the key but it states that it is restricted by the organisation (only IT has access).

This is not the first time I have trouble with my computer during weekends or when working late nights. IT support in my firm is only available during official working hours.

I have raised the issue several times (they could even set up offshore teams or something like that) but I guess it’s not worth it for the firm.

How does it work in your firm/country? Do you have the same problem?

MU x3 or x2 leverage

I bought MU @ around 700. I also have been eyeing MUU ETF for a while now. I’m not from the US so MUU is not available in my country but I’ve seen there’s other leveraged ETF available here. I have 1.1k spare to invest, and after the earnings call I’m considering going on x3 leverage. Would likely hold for 2-3 weeks depending on how the stock performs.

Having serious doubts on whether going in today and hoping for a positive weekend gap or waiting until Monday. Also was initially considering x2 leverage but maybe I should go x3. These are 1.1k I wasn’t counting on anyway (it was a small amount I invested in crypto and realised the gains).

Invertir vs mantener cash

Having trouble following the plan

I invested 23k in a broad market index fund. I also invested 4k in SMH and stocks from 3 companies. In 2 months those 4k are yielding more profitability (in absolute figures) than the 23k.

I know investing in sector specific ETFs and stocks carries more risk and it may go down as quick as it went up but I’m tempted to DCA more into those rather than the broad market index fund, at least now with the semis rally.

Sometimes I have trouble understanding the business and reading in between lines

I don’t have a stem background and the industry is hella technical. I learnt about the value chain, memory chips, processors, data centers, IaaS Saas etc. And sometimes when I read a headline stating that for example Nvidia has done this or that, I have trouble understanding the impact for the industry (eg the announcement of them launching their own CPU).

To what extent are you familiar with the business and industry?

I guess I just have to read more and become familiar with all the terms and concepts.

Web/app de earnings cards para invertir

Buenas!

How to balance communication boundaries when sharing personal topics

Hi everyone, I’m (27F) looking for some neutral perspective on a situation that happened with my best friend (27F as well).

For context, we text almost every day.

I am quite introverted and reserved by nature. My friend knows I have a very complicated relationship with my mother, alongside other ongoing family issues at home involving my parents (infidelity and some heavy financial stress, parents with no retirement plan etc). She knows these topics are sensitive for me.

This past weekend was particularly rough at home, and a couple of days ago, my friend asked me how things were going with my mother. I just replied, "Crisis again” and changed the subject because I didn't want to dig into it. However yesterday she pushed a bit and asked me a couple of times to tell her what had happened.

Since we are so close, I decided to open up and sent her two voice notes (around 6-7 minutes total) explaining the situation. Sharing this took a lot of emotional energy for me, and reviving the topic left me feeling quite vulnerable and raw.

Right after I sent them, she stopped replying to our chat, though she was active elsewhere on social media throughout the evening and night (texting on group chats, posting on insta etc).

She finally replied today around midday (she entered the chat due to an unrelated topic and then she listened to my audios).

By the time she replied, my headspace had completely changed. I no longer felt like discussing the topic, but I also feel like I’d like to address the situation.

I understand people get busy, tired, or simply don't have the immediate capacity to process a long audio message on a weekday evening. But in the other hand I feel like if she’s the one insisting I explain to her my issues, it’s normal I expected her to be present for the conversation, not disappear. I spent the evening, like I said, feeling vulnerable.

Would you say something? Nothing aggressive I’d just like to express how I felt. I also don’t want to create drama or make her feel walking on eggshells or pull away.

Tried day trading and hated every second of it

Hi everyone,

I’m fairly new to investing and today I decided to try day trading for the very first time. Safe to say, it will also be my last.

I picked a highly volatile stock (guess which one haha), and even though I only put in a small amount of money, I ended up glued to my screen the entire day. I got out at breakeven after 6 hours in the market and having seen +20% and -20% returns. Honestly I was just happy it was over.

Before this I had done a couple of trades around two weeks long and those turned out pretty well. But day trading is definitely not for me. I’ve realized I much prefer holding for a few months and long-term investing.

So here I am. How much time do you usually spend researching a company before you decide to buy their shares? What does your DD process look like?

Would love to hear your thoughts and routines.
