Help. First time getting professionally waxed, is this normal? I’m confused/disappointed with the result

So today I got my first professional wax. I booked a full leg wax up to the groin + a butt strip. I specifically said that I wanted to keep the hair on the front/vulva area.

During the appointment I could already tell things felt a bit off. She seemed to struggle removing some of the hard wax from my groin and butt and at one point it felt like it accidentally got stuck and she was pulling quite hard trying to remove it. She apologiesed while trying to jank the wax strip off. It also felt like she was waxing pretty far inward on one side of my labia and pretty high up on the other side.

Now that I’m home and properly checked in the mirror, the result looks really uneven and weird. On one side she went much farther inward than the other. Then on the opposite side it looks like she accidentally waxed higher up than intended while doing the butt strip.

There’s also still a LOT of hair left, especially in the butt strip area, which confused me because I thought the point of a butt strip was to remove all the hair there? There’s also still hair left on parts of the bikini line and she didn’t tweeze or clean it up.

On top of that, she sent me home with wax residue all over my legs and pubic area. My pants and underwear were literally sticking to bits of leftover wax when I went to take them off. She told me not to shower until tomorrow, which confused me because I’m covered in wax particles.

I genuinely can’t tell if this is within the realm of normal wax experience or not?

Would you contact the salon and ask them to fix it? Please help me regarding what I should do.

Update: I contacted the salon and the esthetician answered, apologized, and booked me in for a correction appointment tomorrow.

I’m noticing now that there’s still wax left stuck on some of the remaining pubic hair as well, not just the skin. I’m hoping that the wax is water soluble since I only wanted a bikini wax.

I'm not sure how this is fixable without waxing all of the hair off and basically going full Brazilian. But we’ll see how this goes tomorrow.

Thank you all so much for the advice it helped me tremendously 💗

I tried Korean Waxing for the first time

...and I'm in agony!!!

Why was the information not public that korean waxing hurts like a b****??? And will leave you to regret your own birth!?????

I get it, my father's lineage carries the hair genes of a bear and I'm a lady that's born with her own fur coat. But dayymnn. In my past 5 years of waxing, regularly every month, none of the sessions felt like being skinned alive. Or being turned into a tender chicken. And they cost extra tooo. For what???? The extra pain???? 😭 For booking the pretty, sadistic esthetician???

Edit: it's Korean wax, not waxing to be exact

Home maintenance after salon laser?

Hi all, I’ve done a course of laser treatments for full bikini and armpits, almost done with legs.
My beautician says my results are great but it still bothers me that so much hair grow in the bikini area. I basically have to come back every 6 months and that’s already pushing it. Now, the hair are super blond there now (used to be dark) and thin and soft (until I shave) but it’s still quite a bit around the lips and butt. Has anybody had success with at home maintenance with laser or IPL? Would any of these work on this type of hair? I didn’t really understand from the other discussions I had.
Naturally the area that bothers me is darker in tone (with now fair hair). I understand that they will never go forever but I’d rather do this at home more often then spend money on full body at the salon every 4-6 indefinitely.

Girls - What is the best at home IPL for hollywood?

For context I was quoted quite a fair price for laser removal treatment for my legs, underarms, and hollywood bikini and the place I was looking at is very reputable.

Can someone recommend if I'll get the same results by using an at home IPL? I don't mind paying more money for the laser treatment, but if I can do it from home then even better. Also, has anyone used IPL for hollywood and not only standard bikini, what were the results?

And also how often would you need to do the IPL at home (on legs, underarms and hollywood) to maintain results?

Waxed my Head

Waxed my head this weekend! After shaving weekly for years and years, I put faith in my pain tolerance and I’m so happy to have it GONE. My girlfriend is a trooper for making it possible (she hated every second of it because it hurt).

Advice is welcome! I’ve never waxed anything before but I assume keeping the area exfoliated and washed is the business until it grows back :)

Normal reaction after Brazilian?

It doesn’t hurt, but this is 30 hours after my first Brazilian 😭😭😭 am I cooked?
For context I am a very fair skinned ginger, maybe my skin is ultra sensitive?
My waxer also told me I could go to the pool or get frisky after the wax, which was kind of a red flag to me. I was going to wait 48 hours to exfoliate but should I exfoliate sooner?

I’m sorry to traumatize your eyes with this photo. 😭

Least painful shaving alternatives?

I have pretty coarse, dark hair and really sensitive skin and shaving every few days, especially now that summer is coming up, irritates my skin a lot. I get razor bumps/burns and strawberry skin and ingrown hairs. I do all the steps to avoid this the best I can with exfoliating, changing my razors frequently etc etc but it seems unavoidable. my hair also grows back really fast so I can really only go maybe three days between shaving. I have darker skin so I also struggle with hyperpigmentation, especially from shaving all the time. Nair and hair removal creams work fine on maybe my arms and legs but makes like no difference on private areas and underarms and I leave It on as long as possible and even on arms and legs it grows back pretty quick.

I have an abysmal pain tolerance (fainted during a Brazilian and also during clinical laser hair removal because of the pain). I tried epilating and waxing but with my pain tolerance it’s just not feasible for me. I’ve heard at home IPLs don’t hurt, but is that true and is there any alternative to shaving every few days that won’t make me literally pass out from the pain? I understand I might just have to suck it up and deal with shaving/nair but on the off chance someone has something that worked for them, I thought I’d ask ! Ty!

TLDR: are there any pain free alternatives to shaving constantly or using hair removal creams that don’t really work? do at home IPLs work and are they pain free, especially for someone with dark skin, coarse hair and a very low pain tolerance?

Subtle/discreet methods of body hair lightening and thinning?

I’m one of those girlies with thick dark arm hair over light skin. I’ve never wanted to completely get rid of it because I feel like that would be just as noticeable as what I have now, especially if I just show up one day and my arms are totally bleached or hairless. I’m wanting to find some gentle bleaches or depilatories that can subtly lighten or thin out my arm hair over time to get to a more average level of hair. I’ve tried the Don’t Grow There lotion, twice a day for months, and it really didn’t do much at all for me. Any other suggestions?

Need help curing spots around public area from using hair removal cream (man)

Need help curing spots around public area from using hair removal cream (man)

My friend recommended me the ‘No Hair Crew Intimate Hair Removal Cream’ he uses as an effective way for me to remove all the hair down there because the idea of using a razor scares me😂
I used it two weeks ago today and a day after that bumps started appearing on my upper thigh and private area. They look like pimples and look better than what they did before but still feel itchy from time to time.
I’ve tried searching for the remedy for this but haven’t found a clear answer and when I check on Reddit for the solution, the issue is related to women.
Please someone tell me the cure especially cos I think I might have plans this weekend where bumps in these areas won’t be ideal.🙏🙏

I know it's ok to have some peach fuzz on your breasts but I have some dark hairs in between the breasts too like 15-20 hairs. Is it normal?

Best at home machine?

I was looking into professional laser hair removal when I saw they make handheld devices you can use at home. What are your favorite machines? Ive seen so many out there and not sure where to start. I have fair skin, dark coarse hair.

Why did I suddenly start getting razor bumps/ingrowns after YEARS of clean shaving?

Hi! I’ve (F25) been shaving my bikini area with a razor for like 8 years and I NEVER used to get razor bumps, ingrowns, irritation, or that “bad shave” look. I would always get a super smooth, clean shave.

But for around the past year, suddenly every shave looks bad no matter what I do. It’s not super irritated or dark, but it never looks “clean.” It looks like there are hairs under the skin that haven’t fully come out yet, so it’s like I only shaved the top/head of the hair instead of getting a smooth result. Almost like tiny dark dots/shadow under the skin. It's not itchy nor painful.

The weird thing is:
- I didn’t really change my shaving routine
- I don’t get this issue on my legs/armpits/arms
- I never used to be prone to ingrowns at all

Recently I started using glycolic acid to exfoliate 1-2x a week because I heard it helps with ingrowns, but I’m not sure it’s making much difference yet. But I don't know if they're ingrowns cause it's the entire area.

Has this happened to anyone else out of nowhere? And what actually helped you get back to a smooth-looking shave?

Home IPL for PCOS / PMOS hair growth... has anyone here used it longer than 6 months?

I've got PCOS and the chin/jawline growth has been the bane of my life for years. Tried tweezing, threading, dermaplaning, but all temporary.... and the irritation never really stops. Looking into home IPL but I want to hear from people who've actually used it for 6+ months on PCOS-related growth before I commit to a device.

Did the results actually hold, or did the hormonal side keep bringing growth back? And did you combine it with spironolactone or any hormonal treatment, or run IPL solo?

How to actually get rid of back hair?

I'm a 25F who's honestly tired of living with back hair.

Worse is I'm pale asf and the hair is basically black 💀

During summer I shave it out of desperation but it grows back with vengeance (aka prickly) and fast and it gives me acne.

This is not the best photo since it's recently shaven, so not much growth, but I hope it still paints the picture.

I just went for my first laser session and talked with two techs over doing my back and they both said:

"It's hormonal, best thing you can do is leave it alone. No waxing, no shaving, no creams, no epilating, no lightnening since it might look weirdly bleached. No IPL or laser since the hair might grow back differentely or worse. You should just lie under the sun and let it lighten naturally."

I'm on the floor crying and I hope you can hear me sobbing. I'M PALE WITH DARK HAIR IT DOES NOT LIGHTEN IN THE SUN RACHEL 😭

I literally thought laser would be the solution to it all, and there's no way I'll do electrosis on my 5353827282x back hairs. Not in this economy.

So now I'm just defeated and feeling like I'll just have to embrace it. (Which is not going to happen)

So, has any girl actually lasered their middle to upper back and seen improvement? The laser they use is the Alexandrite / ND Yag.

Or if you don't and deal with it using other methods, what do you do? Has anyone tried Veet hair removal cream, for example?

For now I'll continue to shave and deal with acne and a prickly back or try a cream 😔

Super itchy after shaving legs

I’ve searched Google for answers and have tried a bunch of different “fixes”: I exfoliate, use sensitive skin shaving cream, got a 1-bladed safety razor, shave with the grain, use lotion after, the works. However, regardless of my methods, my legs always end up almost painfully itchy every time. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Please Help

It's been about 2 weeks and my legs seem to be getting worse. I thought it was originally due to a sunburn but this started happening after using my Braun IPL for more than a month. It's been lower legs that have it the worse. My upper thighs are fine. I'm not sure what to do. I stopped IPL on my lower legs for about 2 weeks.

I did start taking Benadryl to help with the itchiness and using anti itch lotion (Aveeno) but how do I make these bumps go away. I did notice black dots in them but I was reading the internet that I shouldn't exfoliate if it's itchy? Please help! It's summer...

P.s. I'm not usually allergic to anything.

[Hair Removal] Salon waxing vs. at-home kits — what do you actually prefer? (asking for a uni project)

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm a marketing student currently researching consumer preferences in the hair removal and waxing space (think salon services vs. at-home wax kits, strips, etc.), and I'd love to hear from real people rather than just textbook data.

Quick question: Do you prefer getting waxed at a salon or doing it yourself at home?

Drop your answer and feel free to share why ? things like cost, convenience, results, pain levels, or trust in professionals all count!

To kick things off:

  • 💅 Salon — I trust the professionals and love the results
  • 🏠 At Home — It's cheaper and convenient enough for me
  • 🤷 Depends on the area — Some spots I do myself, others I leave to the pros

Any brands or products you swear by? I'd love to hear those too!

Thanks so much! this genuinely helps with my research and I'll share findings if there's interest! 🙌
