At home IPL after laser

Hi guys, I looked at a bunch of threads but I’m still on the fence, hoping for some input!

I had laser for my legs and face like a decade ago, it was the most miserable experience ever but I never regretted the results. My pain threshold is probably not great. I would take ibuprofen ahead of time, even smoke weed, it didn’t matter and was always incredibly painful especially for upper/inner thigh and below buttock.

I’ve just finished off a package and follow up maintenance sessions for face, and that pain level was basically nothing, as it was the first time around. I did happy trail on a promotion and the results were great but it definitely hurt. I’ve noticed regrowth at my knee and above being much faster than it used to be and want to do maintenance, but I don’t know if I’m better off doing at home IPL or just doing laser again.

If I do laser, I would likely do a package including bikini because it’s been something I’ve considered for years. The cost is a factor for sure, but I feel like putting the money into it and booking nonrefundable sessions would force me to suck it up and push through pain for the results I want. At home IPL may be more cost effective and less painful, but it has to be more often, and I also don’t know if I can make myself actually do it because I’m a baby versus someone doing it for me. But if I do it at home I could also do areas like belly, lower leg if I need, underarm, etc. at no additional cost. I just don’t know about the pain factor of doing it on my own, and if I screw up in ways a laser tech wouldn’t.

I don’t want to hear from people who say leg/bikini laser for them was just a snap or sting or rubber band sensation, that won’t reflect what IPL may be like for me. Laser on my legs was torture, I need to know if IPL would also be a form of torture.

2015 Fit Timing Chain

Hi there, just a quick question about my vehicle because I'm pretty sure the dealership screwed me.

I have a certified used Fit from the dealership near me, I bring it in for its yearly oil changes and such. Last year got the serpentine belt and spark plugs replaced, as well as repaired a cracked tank. A few weeks ago I brought it in because the bumper cover got damaged with the awful blizzards we had and it was cracked in several places.

They gave me an estimate for the bumper repair, but also told me that my car was overdue to have its timing chain replaced, that they recommend it every 8-10 years and mine was on year 11. I don't know a lot about cars so I just went along with it because I assumed it was necessary and I didn't want an engine issue down the line. I had noticed an occasional rattling sort of sound when idle or coasting at 1k RPM but not when I accelerate past that, so I assumed it may have been related. I don't know much about cars, and nothing is in the owner's manual re: scheduled maintenance regarding timing belts or chains.

Since then, I've been told by two people that the timing chain should basically never need to be replaced and that the dealership was wrong and lied to me. I googled and it says they typically only need it at 80-100k miles, and mine is at maybe 35k, I don't use it a whole ton since I work from home. But it is over a decade old regardless.

I had (stupidly, I guess) assumed a dealership wouldn't screw me over because I bought it from this place and I presumed they'd be above shady behavior like pulling one over on someone. Can any actual Fit owners confirm if this was actually the case, and should I complain to someone or anything? It's still in the shop, I'm sure the repair has already been completed or is underway, so there's no undo right now, they have likely just gotten $2k+ from me for it.

Dandruff vs dry scalp product recommendations?

Hi there, I’m looking for some input on what I think is dry scalp. I’ve had flaking for over a year, and tried many types of shampoo, and finally saw a dermatologist a few weeks ago who said it was dandruff and prescribed me a ketoconazole shampoo. The shampoo only seems to moderately help and only if I leave it on for the full duration of the shower, as in put it on first, do everything else, and rinse it out at the end. Before that, I tried Head & Shoulders, Dove for dandruff/scalp, OGX, adding tea tree oil in, and nothing really makes it all go away.

The flakes are pretty small and white, and my scalp does not itch or look red or anything. My hair isn’t really greasy either. I don’t wash daily because it doesn’t look or feel like it needs it, but if it gets wet in the shower (like I don’t wear a cap or keep my head out of the water enough) my bangs will look a little greasy once it dries. If it’s like that, I’ll just hit them with some dry shampoo if I’m going out somewhere and it’s fine, otherwise if I’m just sitting at home I won’t do anything to it. I have had a couple psoriasis patches but only at the base of my skull at the edge of my hairline, definitely nothing at the crown or bangs. I never use heat or products in my hair, I just wash and air dry.

I got lazy about it, but used to exfoliate and then oil my scalp once a week before a shower and that seemed to help somewhat. I could start doing that again, but I don’t know if that’s the solution.

I haven’t tried any serums or leave-in products because I have very fine, straight hair and don’t know what won’t make it look greasy or weigh it down. I asked in r/haircare but I feel like the people in this sub might know better.
