Front line manager metrics

Is anyone else noticing that frontline managers and leaders seem more motivated lately to resolve cases at the field level rather than send them to Appeals?

I’m curious whether this shift is being driven by new changes in performance metrics, concerns about cycle time and efficiency, or perhaps a perception that Appeals may be more likely to concede certain issues.

After 20+ applications and only one interview (which fell apart over a residency requirement that wasn’t clearly listed), I’m starting to question my approach.

For those who’ve successfully landed roles in industry or consulting, what actually moved the needle for you? Specifically:

  • How do HR recruiters vs. hiring managers evaluate candidates differently?
  • Are there red flags in applications most people don’t realize they’re sending?
  • How do you navigate hybrid roles that quietly expect you to live in-state?
  • What perceptions I should be aware of?

Any honest insight appreciated — the process feels like a black box right now.

Does anyone know what proportion of taxpayers filed their federal returns for 2025? I suspect that if a large number delayed, then customer service may have been less busy, which could mean the agency became complacent with its budget.
